Ferraris “V8” History
All though, much of Ferraris Racing success came from V12 Engines in the early years…Ferrari knew even back in the early ‘70’s, before the first “Gas Crisis”, that the future of his “entire company” would depend on smaller engines to be competitive, affordable & even somewhat economical! So in Turin, Italy in 1973 the First production car with a V8 ever manufactured by Ferrari…the Dino 308gt4 was introduced! Amazingly, that V8 Engine has remained in production to “this day”, and in many of the newest Ferraris, like the “F430’s”, the New “California” & even the Newest…F458 “Italia”! And, let’s not forget that even the “Highest Level of Auto Racing in the World”…Formula 1, Ferrari uses a tiny 2.4 liter V8 that produces over “750hp” & rev’s up to “18,000 rpms”! Wow! As always…Enzo was right! And, if you read just a little history on Enzo Ferrari, you’ll find, that when Ferrari built his now historic V12 engines…he just kept on improving upon there design! Today, Enzo’s original V8 design has proven his philosophy…too still be True! And, now his “V8 Engine” is the longest production engine ever built in the 60+ years of Ferraris History!
