From the reliable folks at Toyota comes the 7th generation Celica. However, the only common thread between the 1st and 7th generations is the name. This GT-S is powered by an impressive 1.8-liter, four-cylinder DOHC variable valve timing and lift with intelligence control (VVTL-I), generating 180 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 133 ft-lbs. of torque at 6,800 rpm. What the GT-S suffers in low-end grunt, it more than makes up the difference in the upper echelon of the rpm band. By keeping the engine within the "sweet spot" of 4,500 to 6,800 rpm develops a mind-bending rush of power to the front wheels. Also, it is mated to a standard six-speed gearbox with a short-throw shifter. The combination provides positive, quick gear changes with a race car-like feel.
