10 Reliable Car Brands That Run Forever (Almost)

2016 Lexus GS F

Behind price, longevity is the second most important factor influencing car buyers. Unfortunately, there isn’t a “sticker price” telling you the longevity of a vehicle. If you want to purchase a dependable vehicle, Consumer Reports has listed the most reliable car brands of 2016. While there are a variety of great vehicles from car makers outside this list, here are 10 of the most generally reliable vehicle brands this year.

10. MINI

While it may come as a surprise, MINI, the British Automotive marque owned by BMW, cracked the top 10 reliability list this year. MINI hasn’t been known as the most reliable brand in previous years, but the company is clearly making improvements, achieving above-average reliability ratings.

9. Hyundai

Moving up 4 places from last year, Kia’s sister brand, Hyundai, has made the top 10 list of most reliable car brands. Hyundai has a variety of 2017 models already available, like the Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, and Hyundai Santa Fe.

8. Honda

Honda’s often cited for reliability, so an 8th place finish is actually a disappointing result for the company. Dropping 4 places from last year, Honda’s continuously variable transmission is one of the primary culprits decreasing its ranking.

7. Buick

The only domestic carmaker to make the top 10 list, Buick snags spot #7. Buick’s been making some great steps with new additions like the Buick Cascada convertible and Buick Envision compact SUV.

6. Kia

Kia jumped up 4 spots from last year. While Kia used to be known for lower-end vehicles, that is no longer the case. Some Kias are incredibly luxurious, like the Kia K900 or Kia Cadenza. Along with improved quality, Kia’s reliability continues to improve.

5. Subaru

Up 2 spots from last year, Subaru has one of the most loyal fan bases in the auto industry. With Subaru Eyesight, AWD in every vehicle, and a history of reliability, what’s not to love?

4. Mazda

Thanks to SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and consistent innovation, Mazda has created some of the most fun-to-drive affordable cars on the market. Mazda has been particularly successful in the crossover market with new additions like the Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5.
