Save Cash at the Pump with a Hybrid

Hybrid technology has come a long way and today, it’s widely seen as the easiest way to get into going green. For years, it was a largely expensive proposition with few cars in the market to choose from. Today, that scenario is flipped on its head with several excellent options that balance performance, pricing, and comfort. Here are ten of the most affordable hybrid cars of 2024.

1. Toyota Prius

It’s impossible not to start with the Prius as it sparked off the entire segment. Today, it continues on as one of the very best. It gets up to 57 mpg in the city and 65 mpg on the highway. That’s downright amazing for a car that can cost as little as $28,745. On top of that, the design has improved so much that you won’t be ashamed to be seen in one.

2. Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Sonata gets a special mention in the two-spot thanks to its outstanding balance of luxury, comfort, high-end tech, and great fuel economy. It’ll get up to 50 mpg in the city and 54 on the highway. On top of that it has more legroom than the Prius, has a longer warranty, and gets a better infotainment system too.

3. Kia Sportage Hybrid

Those who need more space should consider the Kia Sportage Hybrid. It features 40 cubic feet of cargo area in the rear along with excellent headroom and legroom for two rows of passengers. In addition, it starts around $28,000 which gets you up to 42 mpg in the city and 44 on the highway. Not bad for a vehicle of this size. Kia also includes a full suite of high-tech safety equipment like lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams.

4. Toyota Corolla Hybrid

It’s easy to love the Corolla when your main goal is absolute value per dollar when it comes to efficiency. The Corolla Hybrid offers up to 53 mpg in the city and 46 on the highway. It comes standard with LED exterior lighting, cloth upholstery, and 16-inch wheels. It won’t set your hair on fire but it’ll only cost you $24,395. That’s a lot of efficiency for the money.

5. Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

The Elantra Hybrid might be an even better value overall compared to the Corolla Hybrid and here’s why. It costs a bit more at $25,665, but it gets up to 53 mpg in the city AND 56 mpg on the highway. In addition, it offers a better drivetrain with more power and a little bit more cargo space in the trunk. Finally, the interior is night and day compared to the Corolla. The Hyundai feels much more expensive than it actually is.

6. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

The RAV4 is the most expensive SUV here at $32,825 but it’s also one of the very best. It’s spacious, has a great interior, and gets up to 41 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway. Unlike most of the cars here, the hybrid engine in the RAV4 actually improves its driving prowess compared to its non-hybrid counterparts. In addition, the RAV4 offers almost 40 cubic feet of storage in the cargo area.

7. Kia Niro

Those who prefer a more futuristic look should consider the Niro. It won’t necessarily give off “more expensive than it actually is” vibes but it’s still a great car. It gets up to 53 mpg in the city and 54 on the highway. It comes standard with a digital gauge cluster and an infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Every trim also gets lane-keep assist, blind-spot warning, and forward collision warning. This little SUV starts at just $28,315.

8. Ford Maverick

The only truck to make this list, and rightfully so, is the Ford Maverick. While we really wish Ford would add an AWD Hybrid option to this pickup, the standard FWD Hybrid is still an outstanding choice. It gets up to 42 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. Combine that with a top-notch infotainment system, a fun and practical interior, and sincere truck features and we have a winner. It truly is all of the pickup truck that the vast majority of people will ever actually need and it’s fuel efficient too.

9. Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

Consider this to be the bulked-up version of the normal Corolla Hybrid. It sits firmly in the crossover category and offers 45 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway. It costs just shy of $30,000 to start but we count that as a win considering just how practical this small vehicle is. It takes everything one might love about the Corolla and upsizes it just a touch.

10. Honda Accord Hybrid

The most expensive car here is the 2024 Accord Hybrid. In fact, its price almost kept it off of the list but it sneaks in for a few important reasons. First, it’s likely to go down as just one more outstanding entry in the history of the Accord lineage. Second, it’s sincerely handsome and has a great interior. Third, it’s one of the quicker vehicles here. Finally, it gets up to 46 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. Sure, that $33,640 price tag doesn’t look so good compared to the previous-gen Accord Hybrid, which is faster and more featureful, but it’s still one of the best on sale today.
