We ranked the best full-size sedans of 2022 based off of their interiors, powertrains, technology, and available options. Which one is number one?
The sedan was once the car of choice, but the body style is slowly being phased out from lineups as compact crossovers fill the space. However, the full-size cars still on the market are still some of the best options in the car world when it comes to high horsepower and seating for five. These longer cars also provide modern technology, luxury features, and some of the largest trunk spaces among the body style. We took a look at all the available full-size cars from 2022 and ranked them according to how well they scored with our writers. Here’s what we found!
Dapper exterior stying
Excellent V8 engine option
Standard Android and Apple connectivity
Outdated features
No standard driver assistance equipment

The 2022 Chrysler 300 may be the last we see of the historical nameplate, but it unfortunately is gradually going out on a low note. While a 5.7L HEMI V8 is available on the S trim, most will make do with the standard 3.6L V6 sending power to the rear wheels or all four optionally. Neither engine is wowing anybody at the pump, but the comfortable ride the 300’s suspension provides does help its case. Inside is spacious and comfortable seating, but its design feels pretty dated and cheap for being marketed as a luxury sedan. Tech is alright with the decent 8.4-inch Uconnect system. It doesn’t help that the base trim basically has little to no advanced safety features and there is not much in the way of added value with Chrysler’s warranty.
Sharp styling helps Maxima stand out

The Maxima nameplate has been kicking around for over 40 years now and it’s still worth a look for 2022. Not much is different over last year though, as the 2022 Nissan Maxima carries the same 3.5L V6 engine making 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the only drivetrain configuration available, but jumping for the SR opens up a sporty suspension. The interior of the Maxima offers a good amount of passenger room and leather upholstery is standard fare, but it also provides one of the smallest trunk spaces in this group at 14.3 cu-ft. Tech is lagging behind the competition with an eight-inch infotainment system being the only option available, but the standard list of advanced driver aids adds to its value here.
Great engine choices
Impressive handling dynamics
Spacious interior
Aging technology
No hybrid option
Average interior quality

The 2022 Dodge Charger is the full-size sedan to buy if you’re looking for an intimidating car with a high-horsepower engine under the hood. Shoppers have the choice of a 3.6L V6, 5.7L HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, 6.2L supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8, or the high-output 6.2L supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8 in the SRT Hellcat Redeye model. Every one of these models features an eight-speed automatic that sends power to the rear wheels or all four on select trim levels. Fuel economy isn’t a strong point with these choices, but that isn’t why you jump for the Charger. Inside the modern muscle car is a similar setup to the Chrysler 300 and that includes the 8.4-inch infotainment system. Standard driver assistance isn’t found with the Charger, even the top trims need an option package for those features.
Still the standard-bearer after 10 years
17″ front infotainment and 8″ in back
Sub-2 second runs to 60mph in Plaid
Full Self-Driving capability
Minimalistic interior approaches bland
Still a highly desirable EV

The 2022 Tesla Model S is somewhat of an outlier from this group, most notably due to its form of propulsion. Tesla’s vehicles are all electric, with the Tesla Model S being one of their best. Shoppers have the choice of the Long Range model featuring 670 horsepower from a dual electric motor setup that can achieve 405 miles on a single charge or the performance edition S Plaid with over 1,000 horsepower from a triple electric motor setup that can launch the vehicle to 60 mph in under two seconds. AWD is standard in either configuration. Tesla also brings the latest technology to the forefront with their super intuitive 17-inch infotainment system, an eight-inch rear infotainment screen, Autopilot self-driving capability, a full surround camera system, and tons more. The interior is a modern take, but not everyone will be a fan. The rear cargo room is one of the largest at 28 cu-ft. However, noted quality-control issues and a starting price of nearly $90,000 may be a little off putting to the average consumer.

Toyota is planning to discontinue the Avalon after 2022, which is sad to hear given how great of a car it really is. The 2022 Toyota Avalon won’t beat its competition in a race, but it’s one of the better fuel sippers here. Shoppers have the choice between a 2.5L I4 hybrid engine paired to an electronically controlled CVT or a more powerful 3.5L V6 unit paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Passengers of the Avalon will enjoy a comfortable ride and a spacious, well-appointed interior given its price. The available technology is also a great selling point, as the Avalon offers a nice nine-inch infotainment touchscreen unit and a wonderful list of standard advanced safety features. Toyota adds to the Avalon’s already splendid value by providing customers with 2 years or 25,000 miles of complimentary maintenance. Look at getting this full-size sedan before it’s gone.
