Our Favorite High Tech Cars of 2024

We take a look at some of the most innovative cars coming out in 2024 and break down what makes each one so special.

New Year, New Cars, New Tech

Every year automakers bring new cars to the market but more times than not those cars aren’t truly groundbreaking. In a few cases though they’re innovative in one way or another. The eight cars we’ve brought together here all have something special going for them. From design elements that could help brands crack new markets to technology that could change all future cars, these vehicles represent pushing the limits of what’s possible on the road.

Rivian R2

Of all the car companies that need 2024 to go well, Rivian is among those that need it most. Its R1T and R1S models already boast excellent off-road capability, above-average build quality, and high-tech features like Gear Guard. The R2 platform arrives in concept form sometime during the year and with it will come a host of goals for Rivian.

We expect Rivian to unveil both a smaller SUV called the R2S and a smaller truck called the R2T. The high-tech expected in each mostly comes down to simplification. Rivian says that they use 60% fewer ECUs and 25% less wiring. Those changes allow Rivian to aim for a $40,000-$60,000 price point which would be incredibly competitive.

Cadillac Celestiq

Starting somewhere around $340,000 the Cadillac Celestiq should come with a lot of tech that hasn’t ever made its way into a car from GM. Each unit is hand-built and fully customizable with features like engraving on the dash, a 55-inch screen above that dash, and 23-inch wheels.

The Celestiq also has a few features that aren’t totally all-new but worthy of mention anyway including power-opening and closing doors, rear-wheel steering, 38 speakers, and over 100 3D-printed parts. It even comes with a new connected camera suite that puts just about any old-news backup camera to shame. Owners can view the inside and outside of their car while they’re away from it and benefit from theft detection, crash reports, and other useful features.

Kia EV9

As cars go, another new EV isn’t all that special but the EV9 dares to go further in a few different ways. Clearly, it’s a bold look from Kia that aims up market and will likely steal sales from brands that aren’t innovating as much.

What’s really interesting though is that the EV9 is full of advanced tech including the hardware necessary to enable Level 3 autonomous driving in some places. Controlling all that tech is a impressive 30-inch digital cockpit.

Kia has listed the EPA Estimated range at 304 mile. On top of that, the EV9 features seriously fast charging speeds too. Kia says it’ll add about 100 miles of range on an appropriate 350kW DC fast charger in just ten minutes.

Dodge Charger EV

For the first time in well over a decade, we’re about to get a brand new Dodge Charger and at least one version is going to be all electric. That’s huge news for a company that has held on to every scrap of old-school-cool muscle that it possibly could.

In an effort to continue a lineage of muscle cars Dodge says that its soon-coming Charger EV will get a Fratzonic exhaust which mimics the rumble and noise that one gets with a combustion-powered muscle car. In fact, it’ll even make the car vibrate like a proper muscle car should.

Rumor has it that Dodge will also be introducing a gasoline version of the 2025 Charger powered by an inline-6 engine for those who aren’t ready to jump to an EV. Will the new Chargers live up to that MOPAR legacy? Only time will tell.

BMW i7 M70

BMW goes into 2024 with its new flagship sedan the i7 M70, a 650 horsepower AWD automotive embodiment of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On one hand, it can do 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and on the other hand, it will open and close its doors for you.

Owners can even configure the car to automatically open the doors as they approach with the key. It also features a 31-inch flip-down TV screen along with phone-sized touchscreen control areas in the doors for rear seat passengers.

Mercedes-AMG C63 S E

Say it ain’t so. The new C63 isn’t available with the hallowed V8 that we’ve come to love for years. Mercedes thinks that it has a cure though and it comes in the form of the most powerful production turbocharged four-cylinder engine in history.

Thanks to clever engineering that includes electrification, the pint-sized power plant makes 671 horsepower and still manages to get up to 26 mpg on the highway. That’s not half-bad for a sedan.

Ram Ramcharger

One company is planting a flag in a new direction when it comes to electrification and its Ram. The new Ramcharger is electric but it’s also equipped with a combustion engine. How does that work? The V6 engine on board simply acts as a generator and effectively provides more than 600 miles of driving range. On top of that, Ram expects that it’ll tow up to 14,000 pounds and have a payload capacity of 2,625 pounds. Of all the electrified pickup trucks we know about, the Ramcharger is one of the most interesting. Of course, there’s one more that we need to talk about.

Tesla Cybertruck

No discussion about high-tech cars of 2024 could be complete without mentioning the Tesla Cybertruck and that’s for good reason. It’s the very first production vehicle to come with a low-voltage system that runs at 48 volts. That enables Tesla to use less wire while doing more with that available power.

In addition, it helps the truck to weigh less. In fact, it’s bigger than a Rivian R1T but isn’t as heavy. Then there’s the steer-by-wire system which is a gamechanger too. No other company has ever shipped a production vehicle with zero physical connection between the front wheels and the steering wheel until now. The feature allows the Cybertruck to change its steering ratio based on parameters like speed. We can’t wait to test one.
