Receiving an all-new sharper-looking design in 2019, Toyota is still determined to bring more to the table for 2020. Adding in a new TRD Off-Road addition to their 2020 Toyota RAV4 lineup brings your trim options up to seven. RAV4 comes in a mountain of different combinations you can choose from including front-wheel drive, all-wheel-drive, and hybrid versions.
Also, all trims will now enjoy Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alex compatibility, and 4G LTE connectivity. These technology comforts are displayed on a colored 7.0-inch screen or an available 8.0-inch screen depending on what trim and trim options you chose.
Sharp exterior styling
More standard safety features
Great gas mileage from the hybrid
Simple and easy infotainment center
Each trim has an available AWD option
Standard LED taillights
2.5-liter is the only engine option
Non-hybrid power isn’t impressive
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 only comes with one engine no matter what trim combination you choose. That engine is a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force D-4S injection DOHC 4-cylinder. All gasoline-only engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission w/OD, and the hybrids come with a 2-speed continuously variable transmission w/OD.
All trims come with Sport, Eco, and Driving modes for a change in driving characteristics. In sport mode, the gasoline 2.5-liter RAV4 can go to 0-60 MPH in 8.0 seconds, while the hybrid version can get there in 7.4 seconds.
The hybrids also have an EV mode where you can drive on just the electric motors powered by a Lithium-ion battery charged by Regenerative Braking. You can easily switch back to hybrid mode whenever you want or the gas motor will kick on automatically if needed.
Towing and payload are quite modest for this 2020 Toyota RAV4. You will have a payload capacity of 1240 lbs for all trims, a towing capacity of 1500 lbs for the non-hybrid trim models, and 1750 lbs for the Hybrid.
Fuel economy comes in at an EPA estimated 28 city / 25 Hwy / 30 combined for the FWD. For the AWD, you get 25 city / 33 Hwy / 30 combined. And as for the Hybrid, you will receive an amazing 41 city / 38 Hwy / 40 Combined.
Seating up to five people is quite easy for this compact SUV. If you’re seating four, back-seat passengers will get to enjoy a center fold-down armrest with two cup holders. Depending on trim levels and options that are chosen, backseat passengers will also get two USB charging ports. Headroom is plenty for all average-sized adults and, with the driver’s seat in driving position, backseat passengers get to enjoy 37.8 inches of legroom.
There is also optional front and rear heated seats, plenty of front center-console storage, and plenty of cubby holes where you can place small to medium-sized objects or personal belongings all around the interior.
For cargo space, you will find that when seats are folded up, you receive 37.5 cu-ft of cargo volume. When the 60/40 fold-down seats are folded in the downward position, you receive 69.8 cu-ft of cargo volume.
The standard infotainment 7-inch screen or available 8-inch screen work great with the new Android Auto connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It also works fast and has 4G LTE capabilities. With XSE trims and above, you get an upgraded 7.0-inch instrumental gauge cluster which is up from the standard 4.2-inche one. And if you really love your music, opting for the 11-speaker premium JBL sound system is a must.
You should feel really safe in your 2020 Toyota RAV4. This compact SUV IIHS Top Safety Pick also received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. The Toyota Safety Sence 2.0 comes standard on all trims and offers Auto Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Active Lane Centering, Stop-and-Go Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beams, and Road Sign Assist. All XLE models and above receive standard Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, but can also be optioned up on other trim levels as well.
With the 2020 Toyota RAV4 LE, you will have the choice to go with a front-wheel-drive version or an all-wheel-drive version. You will have to fork over an extra $1,400 for the technology, but depending on what kind of driving you are planning on doing, the upgrade to AWD could be worth it. Then there’s the Hybrid version that comes standard with AWD and gets better gas mileage and more power. On all AWD models, you will receive a standard Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) feature. You can choose between four modes: MUD & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow, and Normal.
All trim models come with a standard spoiler on the rear, LED taillights, and optional roof-rails for tying down luggage, bicycles, etc. An easy-to-read 7.0-inch screen infotainment center will be provided for all your tech needs including Android Auto connectivity. Most importantly, all trims come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, giving you plenty of safety features that make the compact SUV one of the safest on the road.
Stepping up to the XLE, you’ll find yourself with a set of 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, integrated fog lights, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. On the Hybrid version, you also receive the Smart Key System on front doors and liftgate, as well as LED projector-beam headlights with chrome bezels.
The XLE Premium will offer you some premium upgrades like 19-inch multi-spoke super chrome-finished alloy wheels. You’ll also find on the inside SofTex trimmed seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with an available two-position memory tilt moonroof.
