What’s New for the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse?
Scheduled for the 2021 model, which you can read about here, a mid-cycle refresh arrives on the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse after pandemic related delays. Narrower headlamps and a broader chin give the Traverse a more squared off, truck-like demeanor. Silver Sage Metallic is one of the three new paint colors available and features like power-folding and heated exterior mirrors are now standard fare on the RS model and above. New upholstery options dress up the interior with wireless Apple and Android device integration standard across the board. It all serves to make this mid-sizer, which leans full-size, worthy of a buyer’s consideration.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse Powertrain
A 3.6L V6 that puts out 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque is the sole 2022 Chevrolet Traverse powertrain. Mated with a 9-speed automatic that routes power to the front wheels, all-wheel-drive can be optioned on any model for about $2000. Fitted with four-corner independent suspension including a five-link rear setup, the Traverse should be sure-footed for a two-ton SUV. There is also a Drive Mode Selector dial, with settings for Snow and Off-Road, that allows the driver to choose from pre-programmed vehicle settings based on conditions.
Towing & Payload
The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds, but requires the Trailering Equipment package to do so. For $650, it includes a receiver, heavy duty cooling system, and Hitch Guidance lines with Hitch View camera angle to check on the connection from the driver’s seat.
2022 Chevrolet Travers Fuel Economy & MPG
For a fairly large vehicle, the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse does well at the gas pump thanks in part to features like idle start-stop and active front grille shutters. Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 18 mpg around town and 27 mpg on the highway. Adding AWD gear reduces those figures to 17 mpg and 25 mpg, respectively.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
A three-row SUV, the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse keeps occupants content with tri-zone automatic climate controls, an available dual-pane sunroof, and 38” of second row legroom. Higher-level trims can fold the third row at the touch of a button and enjoy perforated leather upholstery. Driver-focused amenities include memory settings and power tilt-and-telescope steering column. It is also a cavernous vehicle, opening up 98 cubic feet of volume with the second and third row folded. Entertainment & Technology
An 8” touchscreen for infotainment control is standard on the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse LT Cloth trim and above with wireless smartphone mirroring included across the board. Additional standard tech includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, OnStar telematics, and dual USB ports at all three rows. 120V household power is available as is a Bose stereo system with 10 speakers, navigation, and rearview mirror that can switch to a feed from the rear camera. It even has a washer to keep the lens clean.
Safety Features
Six active driver-aids are included with the standard Chevy Safety Assist suite like Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, and IntelliBeam high beam control. Buckle to Drive, Teen Driver, and Rear Seat Reminder are also standard 2022 Chevrolet Traverse safety features. Rear Park Assist and Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert require a package or upper trim level as does the Safety Alert Seat and Adaptive Cruise Control.

LS – $34,895
With LED headlights, day running lights and tail lamps, 18” wheels, and heated side mirrors, the base Traverse LS isn’t a bad place to start for about $35,000. Triple-zoned climate controls mean rear seat passengers get a say in cabin comfort and a pair of USB ports for all three rows keeps everyone plugged in. 3 years of Chevy Connected Service and a 1 year of vehicle data are included, to serve the Wi-Fi hotspot, remote vehicle access, and OnStar telematics. A 7” touchscreen manages the Chevy Infotainment 3 system that features wireless integration for Apple and Android devices.
LT Cloth – $37,395
As the name implies, the LT Cloth retains fabric upholstery while stepping upmarket with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Second row captain’s chairs are standard though a middle row bench is a no-cost option. As with all 2022 Chevrolet Traverse models, Chevy Safety Assist is on board with Automated Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping and Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and more. For $1295, the Convenience and Driver Confidence package tacks on an 8” display with navigation, power liftgate with programmable height, and, under normal circumstances, heated front seats. However, a $50 credit for the seat heaters is noted on the online configurator due to ongoing supply chain problems.
LT Leather – $41,095
The power liftgate is included on LT Leather models as is, of course, leather upholstery and a power-adjustable passenger seat. Adding the LT Premium package for $3795 nets 20” wheels, Adaptive Cruise Control, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system. Doing so also unlocks access to the $1500 Dual SkyScape sunroof with a power-operated panel up front and fixed glass with sunshade over the middle row.
RS – $45,395
This is the “spicy” Traverse. The RS trim receives blackout treatment outside including dark-finished 20” rims to go with the Jet Black and Spice Red leather scheme inside. Heating elements continue to be a problem here with the heated steering wheel replaced by a $150 credit, but techy features like the rear camera mirror, HD Surround Vision, and navigation system make up for it.
Premier – $47,795
Dual rectangular exhaust tips identify Premier models with color-keyed body cladding and Chevy logo projecting off the hands-free liftgate. The choice of Jet Black and Maple Sugar leather upholstery looks snazzy, but in keeping with the supply chain theme, heated rear seats are off the table. Using directional vibrations to warn of potential accidents, the Safety Alert Seat is a smart feature to go along with Side Blind Zone and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert systems.
High Country – $52,395
There are no packages available on 2022 Chevrolet Traverse High Country because it’s loaded with pretty much everything including the Trailering Equipment group, polished 20” wheels, and side mirrors that have power-operated folding capability and auto-dimming on the driver’s side. The third row features power folding and the SkyScape dual-panel sunroof is included.

Chevy’s vehicle warranty runs for 3 years or 36,000 miles and the powertrain extends to 5 years or 60,000 miles. 24/7 roadside assistance is included under the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse’s powertrain term and the first factory-scheduled service is complimentary within the first year of ownership.
