The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a force to be reckoned with thanks to good range, above-average interior, and attractive pricing.

What’s New for the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E?

Ford has improved the Mustang Mach-E across the entire trim lineup. Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange paint colors are available to all models now. Regardless of the trim level buyers choose, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is good for a few thrills. It is effortlessly quick and responsive, especially in “Unbridled” mode, the most aggressive of its driving profiles. Throttle inputs are met with a spirited whoosh away from stoplights and even on the highway at cruising speeds, it’s happy to snap into action without hesitation.

The GT model is by far the most impressive though. 480-horsepower is a lot for any car, but in an EV it feels like double that off of the line. It’s properly fast and 600 lb-ft of torque is enough to keep you glued to your seat for at least 5-seconds or more. Of course, this is a crossover at the end of the day and no amount of suspension tuning can change that.

At well beyond 4,000-pounds, the Mustang Mach-E is only truly athletic in GT guise. Throw a hard turn at it and, for the most part, it feels good. That is, until it doesn’t. The limit seems to pop up in a somewhat unexpected way. Push this EV and it limits body roll until the tires give up and squeal as understeer takes over. The adaptive dampers on the GT Performance Edition should be available across the lineup. They’re really fantastic.

Still, the vast majority of buyers will never treat this trusty steed in such a way, and for them, it will be a great driver. In traffic, it’s calm, quiet, and comfortable. It’s balanced too with lots of seat adjustability and good visibility. If we’d ask for anything, it would be a lower seating position. As it sits, it feels a good 2 or 3-inches higher than it needs to be.

Towing & Payload

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E isn’t really a tow-focused vehicle, but it does offer the ability to pull up to 3,500-pounds with its 2-inch hitch. That’s far more than many gasoline or hybrid vehicles in the same crossover space.

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Battery Charging & Range

With the ability to drive anywhere from 260 to 305 total miles depending on trim, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E offers a competitive, though not class-leading, range. This EV SUV seems to live up to the mileage that it tells you and can be recharged at home at a rate of 32 miles per hour. Of course, you’ll need a certified electrician to install the optional Ford Charging station there.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

Thanks to a flat floor, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E features tons of space for people and things. There’s more than enough space for adults in both rows too. The rear seats actually feature a cool little bump up in the headliner where taller individuals get an extra bit of headroom. Regardless of seating position, there’s more than enough leg and shoulder room inside.

Between the two sets of seats, we vastly prefer the sport seats with their extra bolstering up front. The standard ones can be really slippery when pushing the Mustang Mach-E to its limits. Both offer good comfort and craftsmanship in everyday driving situations though. Ride quality is good if not a bit firm.

Cargo space is a clear victory for the Mustang Mach-E. Up front there’s a ton of cargo room in the front trunk and is even set up to be rinsed out and then drained. Plus, the rear cargo area holds up to 29 cubic feet of gear before the seats are folded down.

Entertainment & Technology

We feel like the infotainment system in the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a bit of a mixed bag. Ford hit the nail on the head when it comes to what it looks like. It’s bright and easy on the eyes. It’s just a bit clunky in how it works. For example, some menus that look like they require a swipe to navigate end up being a push and wait sort of situation which is frustrating. Opening the rear hatch takes three screen presses. It can take a couple of days of regular use to understand what options are where and how to get to them quickly.

Another blemish is the driver information screen which looks totally tacked on at the last minute. For a dash and interior that seems to be leaning into cool curves and angles, the big rectangular screen seems out of place. Still, we prefer this to not having a dedicated driver information display altogether.

Then there’s the big upside of the Mustang Mach-E, which is that when you finally acclimate to all of this stuff, it works great. The sound system is outstanding. The climate controls react fast and effectively too. There is a bit of a cool factor once things get figured out. It does feel a bit like you’re piloting more than just a car.

Safety Features

While we wait for 2022 scores, the 2021 Mach-E was an IIHS Top Safety Pick winner. In addition, while the NHTSA has selected the Mach-E for testing, it hasn’t released those results just yet. We like that Ford includes its Pilot360 driving assistance tech on each Msutang Mach-E. Adaptive cruise, frontal collision mitigation, and lane-keep assist are obvious benefits.

There’s no doubt that the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is changing the game for Ford and the rest of the EV marketplace. It’s on track to just beat out the Chevy Bolt for 2021 sales and we can’t help but feel this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Mustang Mach-E is above average in basically every category.

This car should have NEVER followed the Mustand Lineage.
    It’s a totally different car.
Name it something Electric, and change the body. It should have been its own brand.
Wonder what the marketing department at ford was thinking??
