After some updates to the 2021 model, there aren’t many major changes this year to the 2022 Honda Accord. The only one is that the EX Hybrid trim is gone in favor of giving buyers the option to opt for the hybrid powertrain in unison with the Sport trim package.
A great value in most every aspect
Above average infotainment system
Great handling
Louder cabin than expected
Some blind spots
Warranty is unimpressive
We’d love an Accord Type R
The 2022 Honda Accord is one of the rare cases in the economy sedan segment where every engine is sincerely good. The base 1.5L I4 motor might be the most impressive considering how potent it is while also maintaining good fuel-sipping habits. It makes 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Like its two bigger siblings, it’s smooth and capable in town as well as on the highway. The continuously variable transmission sending power to the front wheels might be the only thing holding it and the hybrid back from being world beating. It’s just a bit lazy compared to a conventional gearbox.
Speaking of the hybrid, that engine option not only gets better fuel numbers, it also gains some performance numbers too. The 2.0L I4 combines with the electric motor to make 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is a real treat though. It might only have 252 horsepower and generates 273 lb-ft of torque, but it can feel like more. Maybe that’s the 10-speed automatic it’s paired to doing a lot of legwork. Regardless, it’s impressive when you put your foot down. Things only get better when you throw a bend or two at the Accord as it sticks to the surface of the road far better than any previous version.
We’d love to see the Accord with 300-horsepower soon. That would really put it in a league of its own. In addition, the sound deadening could be better. All three engines make themselves known through the thin cabin walls and while some buyers won’t mind that, others certainly will.
Very few sedans can come anywhere close to competing with the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid when it comes to fuel economy. The EPA has given it a combined rating of 48 mpg. Going without the hybrid option doesn’t hurt, as the base 1.5L gets a commendable rating of 33 mpg combined. Even the more sporting trims of the Accord do a nice job with the thirstiest being the Accord Sport with a 26 mpg combined rating.
Cars have grown over the last decade, and the 2022 Honda Accord is no different. The benefit though is that interior space is better than ever in this Honda. For taller drivers, the front seats require some adjustment to get into a good position, but thankfully, those controls are easily handled. In addition, the rear seats provide ample space for tall and short riders alike. The seating is supportive and firm too. Long trips are no big thing for the Accord.
We really like the materials used throughout the interior as well. The surfaces are, of course, mostly plastic, but they won’t feel as cheap as some other brands. For the most part, they’re well laid out and intuitive too. The steering wheel is a notable exception to the rule though. All of its built in buttons and switches will take a while to get familiar with, and some of them are capacitive which isn’t easy either. This has been a bit of a pain point in years past for Honda products, and that continues in 2022.
We love the cargo space though which is top of the class. Room in the trunk alone is only 3 cubic feet off of the same mark set by the Volkswagen GTI, which is a hatchback. Fold down those rear seats and you’re looking at considerably more.
Honda has done a great job with the technology package in the 2022 Honda Accord. Everything feels like it was made together instead of different systems being integrated after design and creation. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the center control stack, the driver information screen, and the optional heads-up display all work seamlessly in concert together.
Wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included in every model, aside from the wireless versions in the EX-L and the Touring. They add to the high-quality experience in the Accord and we love the NFC Bluetooth pairing option too. Finally, the sound system in the Accord is best with the 10-speaker premium option-box ticked. It produces a crisp full sound with good clarity and richness.
Honda scored a Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS in 2021 and we expect the same for 2022. The NHTSA gave the 2022 Honda Accord a five-star rating. Overall, combining those accolades and all of the advanced safety tech in the Accord makes it one of the best buys on the market.
The base 2022 Honda Accord LX comes with 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, and an 8-inch infotainment system featuring both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as four speakers. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired to a CVT and front-wheel drive. Every Accord comes with HondaSensing, a package of advanced driver safety aids including adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane-keep assist.
The Accord Hybrid features most of the same equipment as the LX, but also adds a lockable glove compartment, a trunk main switch, and illuminated power window switches. Under its hood is a 181-horsepower hybrid engine with 232 lb-ft of torque.
The Sport model gets 19-inch wheels, paddle shifters, an eight-speaker audio system, fog lights, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. This trim comes standard with the 1.5-liter engine, but can also be optioned with the more powerful 2.0-liter motor that makes 252-horsepower. The larger option comes mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Those that opt for it will also get a sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a wireless charging pad.
The Sport SE adds keyless entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
The Hybrid Sport trim gains nearly all of the additions found in the Sport trim and swaps in the hybrid engine option paired to the CVT. It also adds on an acoustic vehicle alerting system and active grille shutters.
The EX-L is the first really luxurious Accord and comes with a sunroof, wireless charging pad, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite radio, and driver’s seat memory settings. It also gets front and rear parking sensors as well as blind-spot monitoring.
Go for the Accord Touring and you’ll get ventilated front seats, integrated navigation, a heads-up display, rain-sensing wipers, heated outboard rear seats, and low-speed collision mitigation.
Honda offers a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty on every 2022 Honda Accord. No complimentary maintenance is offered. That’s really among the lowest coverage offered by any brand in any segment today.

The 2022 Honda Accord won’t light your hair on fire with performance or next-level technology, but it will never let its buyers down. The Accord provides quality, reliability, and commendable performance – especially when it comes to fuel efficiency. It’s gained the fame it has because it has always been better than its price suggested, and that’s true now more than ever before.
