What’s New for the 2022 Nissan Armada?
Five years into its second-generation, the full-size 2022 Nissan Armada received a facelift and added tech last year so this year, the only update is the addition of a one-touch, power folding third row on Platinum models. Fortunately, the Armada does come with a high level of equipment, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and towing capability across the trim lineup making it a desirable SUV with a decidedly upmarket look.

2022 Nissan Armada Powertrain
Nissan keeps it simple with the 2022 Armada, offering a single powertrain in the form of a naturally aspirated, 5.6L direct-injected V8 that produces 400 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 7-speed automatic, rear-wheel-drive is standard with 4×4 an option on all models. It adds a 2-speed transfer case with 4-Lo and 4-High to the standard selectable drive modes of Auto and Snow. The combination of body-on-frame construction with fully independent suspension offers a solid combination of utility and ride comfort while the brake-actuated torque vectoring system mimics a limited-slip differential to reduce slippage in slick conditions.
Towing & Payload
Regardless of configuration, the 2022 Nissan Armada is rated to pull as much as 8,500 pounds and handle up to a 1,650-pound payload. The body-on-frame construction with box-section rails helps on this front, as does the standard self-leveling suspension. All Armadas are fitted with a Class IV receiver and 7-pin wiring harness as well as Hill Hold Control and Tow/Haul mode. Moving up the trim ladder, there are additional towing features available like an external surround-view monitor, integrated trailer brake controller, and trailer sway control.
2022 Nissan Armada Fuel Economy & MPG
Fully loaded 2022 Nissan Armadas with 4WD tip the scales just a few pounds shy of 6,000 pounds – it’s a big vehicle. Under the hood, that thirsty 5.6-liter V8 doesn’t use cylinder deactivation tech nor are there external efficiency features like active grille shutters. This is all to say that fuel economy is not an Armada bright spot. Rear-wheel-drive models have EPA estimate of 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Adding 4WD drops those figures to 13 mpg and 18 mpg, respectively.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
With its standard three-row seating, the 2022 Nissan Armada can seat up to 8 people, though an optional second-row captain’s chair setup drops that to 7. With both rear rows folded flat, 93 cubic feet of cargo volume is on tap and Platinum models feature a power-reclining third row. Depending on trim, upholstery ranges from cloth to quilted leather with climatized front seats found on the top-spec. All models benefit from acoustic glass on the windshield and front row windows as well as automatic climate controls, but you’ll need at least an Armada SL to access the sunroof and wood-tone trim.
Entertainment & Technology
The 2022 Nissan Armada’s infotainment highlight is certainly the huge, landscape-oriented 12.3” touchscreen display. It sits atop redundant physical knobs and features phone mirroring software from Apple and Android. Also standard is navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, though wireless charging and a 360-degree exterior camera view requires SV or SL trim. For the full entertainment treatment, look to the Armada Platinum with its rear entertainment system featuring dual 8” screens and a pair of wireless headphones.
Safety Features
Nissan loads the 2022 Armada with a long list of standard ADAS under the Safety Shield 360 umbrella. It includes auto-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent cruise control, rear automatic braking, a driver attention monitor, and automated high beam control. The company’s telematics software adds an emergency SOS button and built-in vehicle tracker while a Tire Fill Alert feature and six airbags are also standard. The surround-view monitor, rear collision prevention, and traffic sign recognition systems require SL or Platinum trim.
2022 Nissan Armada Trims & Pricing
S – $50,395
Entry-level 2022 Nissan Armada S models are nicely equipped with 18” alloys, LED headlamps, and heated side mirrors that have power-folding capability. A Class IV hitch receiver with 7-pin wiring harness is standard as is a manual liftgate and roof rails. Front and center inside is the 12.3” touchscreen infotainment display with wired Android and wireless Apple phone mirroring software. Navigation is included as is a Wi-Fi hotspot and four USB ports. The 7” digital gauge cluster screen can display directions, caller ID and music details while real-time traffic and weather is provided by SiriusXM.
Black cloth is the only upholstery offered on base Armadas, but both front seats are power-adjustable and the leather-wrapped steering wheel is heated. Additional cabin features include an acoustic windshield and front glass along with dual-zone automatic HVAC control. There are no packages available on the S model, but Nissan’s Safety Shield bundle of ADAS includes intelligent cruise control and a driver attention monitor.
SV – $54,395
Like all trim levels, the Armada SV can be optioned with 4WD for $3000, but the SV Appearance package is exclusive to this model. For $2500, it adds 20-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, and a power-operated liftgate. Stepping up to the SV unlocks an Aspen White Tricoat paint job for an extra $395 and the interior picks up leatherette trim in either Charcoal or Almond color. Additional upgrades over base models are a trailer brake controller, heated front seats, and wireless phone charging pad.
SL – $58,205
For about $4000 more than the SV, Armadas in SL trim offer a host of upgrades like auto-dimming exterior mirrors with reverse tilt-down, remote engine start, 20” rims, and a power liftgate. Mocha Almond Pearl and Hermosa Blue Pearl are added to the paint options and the surround-view camera displays a 360-degree view of the exterior on the infotainment display. Trailer sway control is included on the SL as is a sunroof, leather upholstery, and power-tilt and telescoping steering column. Midnight Edition, a $1990 option, blacks out the Armada and requires the $650 second-row captain’s chair package.
Platinum – $66,795
Top-spec Platinum models look sharp riding size 22 wheels and finished in the trim-exclusive Coulis Red Pearl. Rain-sensing and deicing windshield wipers add convenience, as does the one-touch folding third row bench. Back seat occupants benefit from dual 8” screens mounted to the front seatbacks and wireless headphones. Up front, driver and passenger are treated to ventilated seats trimmed in quilted leather with Birds Eye maple wood-tone trim dressing things up. Rear collision prevention and traffic sign recognition are added to the list of ADAS along with the Intelligent Rearview Mirror that displays a live feed from the back of the vehicle.
Warranties
With Nissan’s warranty, vehicle coverage lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles and powertrain components are covered for a 5-year/60,000 mile period. Body corrosion is also under warranty for 5 years with unlimited mileage. There is no complimentary maintenance or roadside assistance included with the 2022 Nissan Armada’s standard warranty.

A powerful V8, ample towing ability, and a huge interior space make the 2022 Nissan Armada a compelling vehicle for folks who need to haul a gaggle of people, and cargo, on a regular basis. However, you’ll have to pony up for the Platinum model to access all the best features, and at $66,000 that may be a bit less enticing.
