What’s New for the 2023 Ford Mustang?
The Ford Mustang has been an iconic model for more than 55 years. Sure, there were some dark days when they were underpowered and boring, but that time has passed. The sixth-generation sports car is back for a final year before they roll out the seventh generation sometime in 2023.
There aren’t a lot of changes for the 2023 Ford Mustang since it is the last year of the sixth generation. The 2024 Ford Mustang promises a new look along with more tech features. The new generation will also be gasoline powered (for now, at least) even though Dodge has decided to go EV. Chevy has also announced that they will discontinue the Camaro after 2024.
While it is not loaded up with technology like some of its competitors, the 2023 Ford Mustang does give drivers a functional infotainment system as an option that blends modern appointments with classic styling. It is a styling that is not easily ignored and hearkens back to the Mustangs of the 1960s.

2023 Ford Mustang Powertrain
While Ford hasn’t had the best history with equipping the Mustang with performing base engines, the 2023 Ford Mustang lineup offers generous helpings of horsepower right from the start. The base 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which produces 310 horsepower and 350 lbs.-ft. of torque. These engines can put Ford’s earlier V8 engines to shame and still make it the arch-rival of the Chevy Camaro.
An optional High-Performance 330 horsepower EcoBoost four-cylinder is available, but it only gives you 20 horsepower over the stock engine. If you really want more power, then you should step up to the 450-horsepower V8 available in the GT and GT Premium trims. An even more powerful 470-horsepower V8 is available on the Mach 1 trim.
No matter what engine option fits your needs, the 2023 Ford Mustang provides you with a fun driving experience. The chassis is well-suited to handle the rigors of daily driving as well as the demands of high-performance racing. The electric-assisted steering gives you three settings based on the type of driving you will be doing, and it does a great job whether you’re driving at high speeds or just around town.
2023 Ford Mustang Fuel Economy & MPG
The 2023 Ford Mustang gets 22 MGP city/32 MPG highway from the turbocharged four-cylinder with the optional 10-speed automatic. The V8 gives you 15 MPG city/24 MPG highway. The automatic transmission is the best way to get a Mustang to save a few bucks at the pump. The manual transmission gets about 7 MPG less than the rated amount which is a huge deficit.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space
The interior of the 2023 Ford Mustang could use some improvement. It seems like Ford skimped on the interior when designing the Mustang. Hard plastics are the main theme of the interior, and they certainly don’t scream “pony car”. It feels just a little cheap – even in the Mach 1 trim.
We would have loved to have seen some more attention to detail here. Since we’re on the topic, how about throwing in some tuck-and-roll seats to give us a throwback to the classic Mustangs of yesterday?
I’m wishing out loud, but Ford could have done a much better job with the interior.
The 2023 Ford Mustang provides plenty of room upfront for the driver and passenger. There’s even a huge storage bin in the center console to stash things while you drive. The controls are comfortable to reach from the driver’s seat.
The rear seats are there, but they can be tricky for adults to access. If you manage to squeeze through the narrow opening behind the front seats, you’ll feel like you may never get out. It is incredibly small without a ton of space. We think that kids will enjoy it, but that’s about it.
The trunk provides 13.5 cubic feet of space. It has a wide opening that sits low to the ground. The rear seats fold down with a simple pull-strap for added cargo space.
Entertainment & Technology
The 2023 Ford Mustang is not loaded with a ton of technology. It does offer an optional Ford Sync 3 infotainment system that is fresh and uncomplicated. While it isn’t as responsive as some competitors, it provides drivers with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety Features
One of the awesome things about the 2023 Ford Mustang is that it comes with a host of driver assistance features; it has more features than any of its competitors. That means you can feel safer while you drive faster.
Available features include Forward-Collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The 2023 Ford Mustang received a five-star crash test rating from the NHTSA.

EcoBoost- $29,145
The base model 2023 Ford Mustang comes with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder and a six-speed manual transmission. It also offers independent rear suspension, daytime running lights, LED headlamps, hood vents, manual climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, keyless entry and push-button start, leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-speaker sound system, cloth upholstery, rearview camera, lane keeping assist, and pre-collision assist with emergency braking.
EcoBoost Premium – $34,170
The EcoBoost Premium trim offers everything available in the base trim plus 18-inch aluminum wheels, puddle lamps on the side mirrors, decklid spoiler, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, illuminated door sill scuff plates, nine-speaker sound system, voice-activated navigation, powered driver’s seat and passenger seat, heated and cooled front seats, ActiveX upholstery, and a reverse sensing system.
GT – $39,720
The Mustang GT comes with everything that the EcoBoost features plus the 5.0L V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission, engine oil cooler, dual 3.5-inch exhaust with quad tips, and LED fog lamps.
GT Premium – $44,740
Stepping up to the GT Premium gets you everything the GT offers plus selectable drive modes, heated side mirrors, universal garage door opener, and heated and cooled leather-trimmed front seats.
Mach 1 – $57,945
The Mach 1 Mustang gives you most of the GT Premium features plus 19-inch dark painted aluminum wheels, 3.73 TORSEN limited-slip rear axle, an Active valve performance exhaust system with revised tuning, Brembo six-piston front brake calipers, a larger radiator, open-air induction system, unique intake manifold and chassis tuning, MagneRide damping system, performance rear spoiler, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, 12-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, cueball shift knob, and heavy-duty front springs.

Warranties
Warranty coverage for the 2023 Ford Mustang is average for the industry. Drivers get a limited warranty that covers 3 years/36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty covering 5 years/60,000 miles. There is no complimentary maintenance offered for the 2023 Ford Mustang.
