What’s New for the 2023 Honda Accord?

An evolutionary exterior and heavily revised running gear are highlights of this 2023 Honda Accord review. It marks the start of generation eleven and 46 years of Accord production, a history we look back on here.

A familiar body style is newly refined with crisper front and rear fascia that align the latest Accord with its Civic stablemate. Honda is pushing their improved hybrid models by fitting them exclusively to the high-end trims and discontinuing the potent turbocharged 2.0L from last year. Other notables include a fully digital gauge cluster and the first use of Google Built-In by Honda.

Honda fits the two entry-level 2023 Accords – LX and EX – with the same turbocharged 1.5L inline-4 found on last year’s model, a car we review here. Horsepower and torque figures are the same, 192 for each, and it pairs with a CVT to drive the front wheels. The rest of the 2023 Accord lineup comes with a revamped hybrid powertrain. It blends a naturally aspirated 2.0L four-cylinder with dual electric motors – one to start the engine and one to get moving – and also pairs with a CVT.

A new feature for the hybrid is deceleration paddles on the steering wheel that allow drivers to select from varying levels of regenerative braking. These models also come with a “Motion Management System” that can modulate power output and braking force to reduce understeer in heavy cornering. This trick system, along with the 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque on tap with the hybrid setup, suggest these are the models for enthusiasts.

All 2023 Accords ride on a fully independent suspension renowned for its ability to deliver composed and athletic handling. But only the hybrid adds a rear stabilizer bar along with a thicker front bar. Other lineup-wide dynamic improvements include stiffer body supports, a 0.4-inch wider rear track, and new front damper mount bearings that are said to reduce friction for a smoother steering feel.

Boasting fuel efficiency figures of 51 mpg in city driving and 44 on the highway, the EX-L can stretch a full tank of 91-octane to 650 miles around town. The other three hybrid trim lines are rated for 46 city and 41 mpg highway driving, while the non-hybrid 2023 Accord comes in at a still respectable 29 mpg around town and 37 on the open road.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo Space

It’s hard to find faults with the 2023 Honda Accord, but the cabin does take a ding for not offering much pizazz. Other than the available gray cloth in base models, it’s a sea of black inside. Granted, the metal mesh piece that runs across the dashboard adds a premium feel, while concealing the HVAC registers. And there is plenty of room for all five possible occupants. Rear legroom measures 41 inches, seven more than what’s found in a Kia K5 that we compare to the Accord here. So really, the color scheme is more of a quibble.

New for 2023 is what Honda calls “Body Stabilizing Seats” up front that feature a host of comfort-focused improvements like an embedded resin mat to support the body from pelvis to lumbar spine. All with the intention of reducing fatigue, particularly on long hauls. Those front buckets are heated on every new Accord except the base LX model and the Touring adding ventilation up front and heat for the outboard rear positions.

Trunk space comes in at 16.7 cubic feet and is easily accessed outside via a key fob button that flips the lid up nearly vertical. The rear bench can also be folded down for stowing longer cargo like skis. Leather shows up on the steering wheel and shifter on Sport models, while EX-L trims and above come with it on the seats. Honda notes that a new kneading process results in a softer, smoother leather texture than before, which is nice.

As we discuss in this new vs. used comparison of the tenth-gen Accord, the previous infotainment touchscreen topped out at eight inches. For 2023, hybrid models sport a 12.3-inch display sprouting from the dashboard with a wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Non-hybrid Accords make do with a 7-inch screen and wired smartphone integration. Standard tech includes a Wi-Fi hotspot and HondaLink connectivity, but the head-up display (HUD) and 12-speaker Bose stereo are only available on Touring models. That top trim also comes with Google Built-In, enabling occupants to practice their “Hey Google” commands.

Safety Features

Though neither agency has tested the 2023 Accord, the 2022 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a 5-Star Overall rating from NHTSA – both top marks. Considering 10 airbags and HondaSensing – the automaker’s suite of driver aids- is standard equipment, it seems clear Honda is aiming to maintain those ratings. HondaSensing includes forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, and automatic high beams. Hybrid models, which can travel short distances in EV mode, have an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System to help with pedestrian safety.

LX – $28,390

For less than $30,000, the base 2023 Honda Accord LX rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and has LEDs for the headlamps and taillights. Conveniences include passive entry, walk-away automatic door locks, and remote engine start. The cabin can be fitted with black or gray cloth upholstery and, like every 2023 Accord, has an all-digital instrument panel. A 7-inch touchscreen manages smartphone mirroring and Wi-Fi hotspot.

EX – $30,705

For a couple thousand more, EX models add heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-speaker stereo. This trim also includes blind-spot monitoring, a rear cross-traffic alert, and a moonroof.

Sport – $32,990

All models from Sport on up are fitted with the hybrid powertrain. This variant sits on gloss black 19-inch rims, has a black cabin headliner, and aluminum pedal covers. Also included on Sport trim and above is the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

EX-L trim dials it back down to 17 inchers but adds black leather upholstery and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Both front seats are power adjustable and a pair of rear USB ports join the standard pair up front.

Warranties

Honda’s warranty pales in the face of Hyundai or Kia with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic term and five years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain. However, new for 2023 is the 2-year/24,000-mile complimentary service warranty. Other highlights include eight years or 100,000 miles of hybrid battery coverage and a 3-year/36,000-mile roadside assistance window.

If this 2023 Honda Accord review doesn’t make it clear, this car is an all-around winner. Honda is known for sweating the details and it shows on this shiny new 11th-gen Accord. The roofline is laser brazed to eliminate the need for a molding. The base motor now has a high-rigidity crankshaft and upgraded direct-injection system. The seats are highly engineered. The handling is better than ever. The hybrid kills it at the pumps. And so on.

It’s a bummer that the punchy 2.0 turbo mill and 6-speed stick are gone, but that doesn’t diminish how well-rounded this latest Accord is.
