2023 Toyota Sienna 25th Anniversary Edition – toyota.com | Shop 2023 Toyota Sienna on Carsforsale.com
After adding the lifted Woodland model last year, as we cover here, the 2023 Toyota Sienna arrives with another new model – the 25th Anniversary edition.
Celebrating a quarter-century of production, this new Sienna blends sporty bits from the XSE with luxury trimmings from the Limited and adds a bit of exclusive 25th Anniversary flair like an embroidered key fob. Only 2,525 units will be built making it a true limited edition.
The new Sienna is a carryover model, which makes sense considering Toyota has sold more than two million copies of their minivan over 25 years. Why mess with success?
Hybrid efficiency
AWD confidence
Plenty of legroom
Can’t stow the 2nd row
Light on power
Smallish touchscreen
The ideal family vehicle
While the prior generation offered hearty V6 power, as noted in this used vs. new comparison, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is a hybrid-only minivan. It pairs a naturally aspirated 2.5L inline-4 with a pair of battery-powered electric motors up front. Adding AWD brings a third, smaller electric motor to the rear end and in either configuration, Toyota rates the Sienna for 245 combined horsepower. A continuously variable transmission routes power to the front, or all four, wheels.
The Sienna sits on a fully independent suspension and in XSE form, it comes with a sporty tune of those suspenders and the steering per Toyota. Of course, no one will mistake it for a hot rod but the Sienna will deliver a comfy ride sure to keep the kids from complaining (too much).
Other notable driving features include an EV mode and the off-road-ish Woodland model. The former allows for a modicum of low-speed battery-powered puttering, such as maneuvering about a parking garage. The latter adds 0.6 inches of additional ground clearance for just about seven inches total. In combination with the included roof rails and crossbars, this setup encourages light adventuring on slightly rough roads.
The relatively low power output translates to strong fuel economy. In base FWD guise, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is rated for 36 mpg in both city and highway driving.
Adding AWD brings down the city figure by a single mile per gallon. Chrysler’s Pacifica in hybrid setup is an FWD-only minivan that is rated for 30 mpg combined. The Toyota comes in far better at 36 combined mpg.
Toyota’s claim to fame for the 2023 Sienna are the “super-long slide” second-row captain’s thrones. Mounted in a set of tracks, they move almost to the rear bench allowing for a huge amount of legroom or cargo space. On upper-level trims, they even have power-operated ottomans to go with the deep recline for serious lounging.
However, these same seats do not stow or fold flat. Instead, they tip forward when max rear cargo room is needed. This opens up 101 cubic feet of space, which is substantial. However, Kia’s Carnival which we compare to the Sienna here comes in at a whopping 145 cubes.
Base models offer 8-passenger seating with a second-row bench that includes a removable central jump seat or room for seven on the XSE and above. The wayback bench boasts 39 inches of legroom and is easily folded and stowed within the rear storage well when not needed. Cargo space behind that row is 33 cubic feet or 75 when stowed away.
Cabin upholstery ranges from cloth to patterned SofTex leatherette to real leather with stitched soft-touch cabin surfaces. Heated front seats are widely available but a heated second row requires the top-spec Platinum model. Families with little ones are sure to appreciate the abundance of LATCH locations – five with the middle row bench – making for easy child seat installation.
Every 2023 Toyota Sienna comes with a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integrations. Pricier trims add features like built-in navigation and a 12-speaker audio system from JBL, but in the screen-size wars, Kia offers a much larger 12-inch display on their Carnival minivan, which helps it earn first place in our minivan ranking.
Vehicle PA systems are a parent-favorite minivan amenity and Toyota comes through with their Driver Easy Speak setup included on the XSE and above. Every Sienna comes with a 3-month Wi-Fi trial subscription and an available connectivity app allows for remote control of vehicle locks and engine start.
With 10 airbags and a robust suite of standard advanced driver aids including forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping system, a blind-spot monitor, and a rear cross-traffic alert, the 2023 Sienna is safety-centric. And it shows with the IIHS naming it a Top Safety Pick+ for 2022 and NHTSA giving it a 5-star overall crash test rating for 2023. Safety Connect, which consists of an SOS button, automatic collision notification, and a stolen vehicle locator is included for the first year of ownership.
The base Sienna LE comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting all around, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Apple, Android, and Amazon integrations are controlled via a 9-inch touchscreen sprouting from the dash and you can have any upholstery you want as long as it’s gray fabric.
XLE trim adds the key upgrade of hands-free sliding doors plus a moonroof and four zones of automatic HVAC control. SofTex leatherette covers the seats, which are heated up front, and parking sensors are fitted front and back.
Sporting a black mesh front grille and dark-finished 20-inch rims, the XSE is, um, sporty. That flair is amped up with a cool Cement paint option and the two-tone seats with red piping look pretty sweet too.
Only sold with AWD and a slight suspension lift, the Woodland Edition also includes Driver Easy Speak, navigation, and a wireless phone charging pad.
The 25th Anniversary Sienna has serious side mirrors that auto-dim, tilt down in reverse, and light up the ground. Other highlights include an exclusive key fob, climatized front seats, and black leather upholstery with silver stitching.
Limited models are loaded with polished rims, second- and third-row sunshades along with a 7-inch gauge cluster screen and JBL stereo with 12 speakers.
20-inch wheels, a Panoramic View Monitor, exclusive brown leather, and a head-up display are all included on the Sienna Platinum. Like most of the lineup, it can be upgraded with a rear seat entertainment package for $1,400.
Toyota’s basic warranty is good for a 3-year/36,000-mile term and the powertrain runs for five years or 60,000 miles. The hybrid system is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles with the battery itself under warranty for a 10-year/150,000-mile period. Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of complimentary factory-scheduled maintenance.
