What’s New for the 2024 Honda Civic?
The 2024 Honda Civic enters production after a busy couple of years starting with its 11th-gen arrival in 2022. Last year, the 2023 model – which we reviewed here – marked the return of the mighty Civic Type R for track-focused owners. So, this year, there are no real changes aside from a $200 increase in base sticker prices.
Honda has confirmed the Civic will be offered with a hybrid powertrain, but it’s not yet for sale and details are nonexistent. But that’s ok because the current Civic is an excellent all-around compact sedan as we’ll dive into below.

2024 Honda Civic Powertrain 9.5/10
Honda offers 4 powertrains for the 2024 Civic including a 2.0L inline-4 on base models that produces 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. EX and Touring trims come with a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder setup good for 180 horses and 177 torques. Both engines found in the 2023 Mazda 3, which we compare to the Civic here, are more potent, but Mazda does not offer models like the spicy Si or track-attack Type R.
In Si trim, the 2024 Civic is packing a turbocharged 1.5L four-pot turned up to 200 hp and the mighty Type R is rocking the turbo 2.0L unit that makes 315 horsepower in this application. Both the Si and Type R come only with a 6-speed manual transmission, which is also optional on the hatchback alongside a CVT, the latter being the sole transmission for the sedan.
Regardless of trim, all 2024 Civics are front-wheel drive unlike the Mazda 3 that offers AWD. Combined fuel economy figures range from 35 mpg for an LX sedan with the CVT to 33 mpg for a top-spec Sport Touring hatchback. The Si comes in at 31 mpg combined, while the aggressive Type R manages just 24 mpg combined.
2024 Honda Civic Interior 9.25/10
The latest Honda Civic earns first place on our list of best compact cars partly because of its elegant and functional interior with plenty of room all around. The sea of black theme is broken up by a metal honeycomb mesh panel running across the dash to conceal the HVAC registers and add a touch of maturity.
Cloth and leather upholstery are on hand with the Si receiving a sweet red checkered pattern and the Type R going full-on race red with heavily bolstered sport seats. On EX models and above, those front seats are heated but there is no option for seat ventilation with the 2024 Civic.
There is plenty of cargo room, however, as the sedan offers a trunk with just about 15 cubic feet of space and the hatchback body comes in at 24 cubes. All models have a fold-down rear seat with the 60/40 split reserved for EX trim and above. Aside from the Type R that only seats 4, all new Civics can handle 5 passengers across 2 rows of seats.
2024 Honda Civic Technology Features 8.75/10
One downside to the latest Civic is the relatively small 7-inch infotainment touchscreen found on most models. You’ll need at least a Touring for the larger 9-inch unit or an Si that comes with an 8-inch version. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are lineup-standard with wireless integration included on the Touring variants. Those models also boast a 12-speaker Bose stereo system versus lesser Civics that make do with 4 or 8 speakers.
On the safety front, Honda includes 10 airbags and the Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver aids on every 2024 Civic. This bundle consists of adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping system, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Little wonder the NHTSA awarded the latest Civic 5 stars overall and the IIHS named last year’s model a Top Safety Pick (the 2024 model has not yet been tested).
2024 Honda Civic Trims & Pricing
The 2024 Civic is offered in sedan and hatchback body styles with the Si only offered as a sedan and the Type R only offered as a hatchback.
LX – $25,045
LX models ride on 16” steel wheels with hubcaps, have full LED exterior lighting, and body-color trim. Cabin amenities include black cloth upholstery, push-button start, automatic climate control, and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with smartphone mirroring. A 7-inch gauge cluster screen and 1 USB port are also on hand.
Sport – $26,645
In Sport guise, the Civic comes with 18” black alloy wheels, remote-engine start, and passive entry with walk-away auto-lock. The stereo system gains 4 speakers for a total of 8, and leather wraps the shifter and steering wheel.
EX/EX-L – $28,045
At the EX level, buyers can enjoy a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats. An additional USB port is added up front. The EX-L hatchback variant comes with leather and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Si – $30,195
Sport-forward Si models largely match the Touring trim for content but come with a hotter motor, matte black rims, and sport seats finished in red and black. A helical limited-slip front differential is also part of the deal.
Touring/Sport Touring – $31,645
Touring trim (Sport Touring for the hatch) is loaded with automatic wipers, LED fog lamps, and black leather upholstery. A mostly digital gauge cluster is added along with dual rear USB ports, a 9-inch touchscreen, connected navigation, a wireless phone charging pad, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
Type R – $44,890
Built for lap times, Type R Civics have a 315-horse high-strung four-pot, Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels, an aluminum hood, and an active exhaust system. The cabin features a liberal application of the color red, a serialized number plaque, and an integrated data logger system.
2024 Honda Civic Overall Value 9/10
A 2024 Honda Civic costs more than a Kia Forte across the board and the Kia has the best powertrain warranty in the business. But with a Honda Civic, you’re getting what you pay for – an over-engineered compact sedan with decades of refinement behind it and the option for serious sporting abilities if you so desire.
An EX or EX-L model is the sweet spot with the bigger engine, but we’d step up to a Touring to enjoy the available manual transmission and high level of technology. Though the 3-year basic warranty is just average, and the 5-year powertrain warranty is half what Kia offers, Honda does include 2 years of complimentary maintenance.

It’s hard to find things not to like about the 2024 Honda Civic aside from the weak base motor. Hopefully, Honda delivers the hybrid sooner than later, but until then buyers would do well to enjoy the EX models or above from a driving enjoyment and refinement perspective, not to mention fuel efficiency.
But watch out for that Si model – if you dare to test drive it, we dare you not to take it home. So do your homework on the latest new car incentives first. As for the Type R, it’s simply an outrageous vehicle that leans hard into the Boy Racer segment but delivers the goods for the right owner.
