The 2024 Hyundai Palisade, which was all-new in 2020, continues to impress in the large 3-row crossover segment with near-luxury digs for mainstream pricing. After the 2023 Palisade was comprehensively overhauled, this latest model sees updates focused on feature shuffling. Dual-zone automatic climate control is now standard as is the Bluelink+ suite of connectivity.
Ambient lighting has been added to Limited models and manual 2nd-row sunshades are now included on the XRT model and above. There is also a new Calligraphy Night Edition atop the trim ladder with the usual application of blacked-out bits and baubles.
Luxury for less
Heated third row
Semi-autonomous driving tech
Unimpressive fuel economy
Questionable front-end styling
Lack of hybrid powertrain
One of the best big SUVs
Every 2024 Hyundai Palisade is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 rated for 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic to spin the front wheels or, for an extra $2,000, you can add an AWD system that includes a locking mode to evenly distribute torque front-to-rear. It would be nice to see Hyundai offer a hybrid powertrain for the Palisade, but it’s hard to complain about the smooth power delivery of the big V6.
Base models earn 19 mpg in city driving and 26 on the highway. Adding AWD diminishes the highway figure by 2 mpg but the city rating stays the same. A new Mazda CX-90 with AWD earns city/highway ratings of 24/28 mpg for comparison. Hyundai fits every 2024 Palisade with trailer sway control, a transmission cooler, and trailer pre-wiring to allow for up to 5,000 pounds of towing. However, that figure assumes trailer brakes are fitted.
For families in the throes of grade-school madness, look to a Palisade SE with its 2nd-row bench that allows for up to 8 passengers. SEL trim makes this feature optional, while the XRT model and above come only with captain’s chairs in the middle, which translates to 7 passengers max. If you go the latter route, both middle thrones can be moved forward with a one-touch button to access the 2-person bench in the 3rd-row position.
Creature comforts and cargo space are impressive in the Palisade. Standard amenities include an acoustic laminated windshield, dual zone automatic climate control, and 2nd-row climate controls. Higher-end models offer such fanciness as quilted leather door panels, a power-folding and heated 3rd row, and climatized cushions for the 1st and 2nd rows.
As for storage, there are up to 86.4 cubic feet on hand with all seats folded, but just 18 cubes behind the 3rd row. Fortunately, an underfloor compartment back there adds more room and is ideal for wet or muddy gear.
Thanks to an impressive roster of technology, the Palisade takes 1st place on our list of the best 3-row SUVs. All models come with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple and Android device mirroring, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and ample USB ports. SEL trim adds Phone-As-A-Key tech, while high-end features like a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and a blind-spot view monitor are available. Don’t miss the in-car intercom, one of our favorite family SUV features as it reduces the screaming between rows.
Safety is equally impressive on the 2024 Palisade, which earned a 5-star overall crash-test rating from the NHTSA and an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating last year. A robust set of standard advanced driver aids, which we think is important for family vehicles, consists of forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping system, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous capability, and automatic high beams.
This entry-level 2024 Hyundai Palisade is equipped with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, remote engine start, and heated side mirrors. Inside you’ll find cloth upholstery, dual zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen to manage the navigation system, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluelink+ connectivity, Apple and Android mirroring, and Rear Seat Quiet mode.
SEL models add a wireless charging pad and Hyundai’s Digital Key to the tech lineup along with a hands-free liftgate, heated front seats, and H-Tex leatherette upholstery. For $4,950, the Premium package is absolutely stuffed with content including 20-inch wheels, a fully digital gauge cluster, a surround-view monitor, Highway Driving Assist II, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a sunroof, and more.
Introduced last year, the Palisade XRT has “rugged” styling courtesy of special body cladding, but no actual off-road gear. It does look nice with black 20 inchers and comes with a sunroof, 2nd-row sunshades, and cross bars for the roof.
In Limited spec, the Palisade collects everything from the SEL and its Premium package then adds on a rear sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, leather upholstery, and a power-operated driver’s seat thigh cushion. These models also feature a HUD, a ventilated 2nd row, and a heated 3rd-row.
With exclusive wheels, a unique front grille, and upgraded LED exterior lighting elements, Calligraphy trim looks the part. These ritzy Palisades also boast Nappa leather, massaging front seats, a suede headliner, and a digital rearview mirror. Remote Smart Parking Assist and Evasive Steering Assist round out the long list of technology.
New for 2024 and only available in Abyss Black or Hyper White paint, Night Edition models start with a Calligraphy setup and add AWD, a blacked-out exterior treatment, a dark center console cover, and exclusive premium fabric upholstery.
Most competitors will find the 2024 Hyundai Palisade hard to beat when it comes to value, except its corporate cousin the Kia Telluride that is. For about $45,000, the SEL model with the optional Premium package would be our pick. It has so many amenities, so much technology, and so many safety systems that it becomes hard to recommend looking at anything else.
And let’s not forget the top-notch Hyundai warranty. It includes a 5-year/60,000-mile vehicle term, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain term, 5 years of roadside assistance, and 3 years or 36,000 miles of complimentary maintenance. Few competitors – in the mainstream or luxury segments – can touch this kind of coverage.

On the whole, the 2024 Hyundai Palisade is a homerun – as it has been since arrival 4 years ago. It would be nice to see a thriftier hybrid powertrain offered and given Hyundai’s breadth of hybrid SUVs maybe we’ll see that down the road. Lastly, the styling may not be for everyone, but given all the upside that’s an easy downside to look past.
Smart mode is an “intelligent” drive setting that blends Comfort, Eco, and Sport modes while monitoring your driving style so it can adapt accordingly.
2020 was the Hyundai Palisade’s first model year.
With trailer brakes, the 2024 Hyundai Palisade can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
