The 2024 Toyota Camry comes to the market with no significant changes compared to last year’s model. The only difference between the two is that Amazon Alexa integration is no longer available. Notably, Toyota is likely about to launch either an all-new Camry or a heavily refreshed Camry in 2025. Hopefully, Toyota will add a plug-in hybrid variant.
Great V6
Excellent hybrid fuel economy
Solid safety equipment
Underwhelming interior
Very limited AWD availability
Weak four-cylinder engines
It’s time for an all-new Camry
Toyota offers the Camry with three different powertrains to choose from. Standard on every trim level save for the TRD is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It makes just 203 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque.
To put that into perspective, that’s 46 horsepower and 20 lb-ft of torque than the Camry made 20 years ago. Progress isn’t about power for the Camry though. Today, it gets up to 28 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway. This engine puts that power to the ground through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard but AWD is available.
Next up in the lineup is a hybrid powertrain which is available on every trim except the TRD and comes with an electrified version of the same engine but with a total system output of 208 horsepower. It is only available as a front-wheel drive car and gets the power there through a continuously variable transmission. It gets up to 51 mpg in the city and 53 on the highway. That’s downright spectacular considering the size of the Camry.
Finally, the Camry TRD is only available with a 301-hp V6, an eight-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive. As we said last year and the year before that, this engine deserves all-wheel drive because it simply overpowers the front tires too easily. Part of that is fun but when one really wants to drive passionately, the Camry drivetrain simply isn’t as sharp as we’d like. Thankfully, fuel economy for the V6 isn’t too bad with figures of 22 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. Notably, XSE and XLE buyers can both select the V6 should they prefer it.
The cabin of the Camry has a lot going on and that’s true regardless of trim level. The dash appears to have three main sections that combine swooping curves with hard straight lines. We’re not totally sure that it’s as pleasing to the eye as it is simply eye-catching. Nevertheless, it’s a modern look that also benefits from tight panel gaps. Higher-end trims like the XSE and XLE feature nice materials like real leather and faux-wood. Lower-end trims feel inexpensive with interiors full of plastic panels.
Seating is no cause for alarm though as the Camry offers spacious headroom and legroom in each row. The front seats are highly adjustable so that just about anyone can find a comfortable driving position. Toyota includes a bevy of clever storage options inside the cabin. Behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seat is a trunk with just over 15 cubic feet of cargo space. That’s true of both the standard Camry and the hybrid as the battery sits beneath the rear seats instead of in the trunk.
Toyota employs a lot of modern technology in every Camry regardless of trim level. The standard infotainment system measures in at 7 inches but a larger 9-inch unit is also available. Both use Toyota’s Entune 3.0 interface which is snappy, easy to use, and featureful enough that we think most buyers will like it. That said, we see room for improvement when it comes to graphics and feature depth.
Buyers who prefer a third-party interface will appreciate that the Camry’s infotainment system works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On top of those benefits, Toyota includes a number of physical knobs and switches for important controls. That makes it much easier to make quick adjustments to numerous settings while keeping a focus on the road.
In terms of safety, the Camry looks great on paper too. Neither the IIHS nor the NHTSA have released any safety data on the Camry but it was a Top Safety Pick+ winner in 2023. On top of that, it comes with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
The base Camry is available with either the gas-only four-cylinder engine or the hybrid powertrain. AWD is available, but only with the gas powered engine. Beyond that, the SE gets 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
The SE is all about sporty touches so it gets 18-inch wheels, faux leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique exterior trim, and a sport-tuned suspension. The gas-only version gets paddle shifters too. Just like the LE, it’s available with either four-cylinder engine including gas-only or hybrid.
The SE Nightshade is an appearance package only so it gets 19-inch bronze wheels, black exterior trim, and a spoiler.
The XLE is the first trim that’s available with all three engine choices including the V6. All three come with leather upholstery, full-speed adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, keyless entry, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, an upgraded driver information display, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and rear-seat climate vents. Hybrid buyers also get faux wood interior trim.
Just like the XLE, the XSE comes standard with a four-cylinder engine but is also available with the V6 or the hybrid drivetrain. Standard features across all engine choices include 19-inch wheels, a black gloss grille, and metallic interior trim. Gas-only Camrys also get sport-tuned dual exhaust. Hybrids get dual-zone climate control with an electric compressor and a humidity sensor.
The Camry TRD is only available with the V6 and also features black mirrors, unique 19-inch wheels, aerodynamic trim, TRD faux leather upholstery, red seat belts, a sport-tuned suspension, and a sport-tuned exhaust.
The Camry continues to be a solid value as inflation and other prices continue to rise. It’s not going to wow anybody with its styling, performance, or fuel economy but its ability to hold its own on all of those fronts is rare in the car world. The cabin is comfortable, the safety tech is excellent, and we imagine it’ll be a reliable ride for decades to come.

As this generation of the Camry fades away I’ll always wish that Toyota had employed AWD on the V6 models. It’s proven to be wildly fun and capable on the GR Corolla so it would’ve been a welcome addition to the Camry. Beyond that, it’s hard to argue with a sedan that offers all that the Camry does for the price it’s set at.
The Toyota Camry is 192 inches or 16 feet long.
Generally speaking, the Camry is known as a reliable car. The three engines available in the 2024 Camry are also known for their reliability.
Yes. The 2024 Camry has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for that matter.
