What’s New for the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox?

The Chevrolet Equinox is one of those compact SUVs that feels like it’s always been. After almost 20 years as Chevy’s bread-and-butter crossover, the 2025 Equinox kicks off an all-new 4th generation.

With a newly redesigned interior, updated technology and the new Equinox EV also debuting alongside this gas-powered version. Is the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox a better deal than the previous generation?

2025 Chevrolet Equinox Powertrain 7.75/10

Typical GM. The powertrains across their line are so inconsistent it’s like a problem child who only does their homework two to three times a week. Some GM engines are brilliant, while others are utterly forgettable. The 2025 Equinox’s turbo four-cylinder engine, jetting 175 horsepower makes it suitable for everyday in-town driving and right-lane warrior highway jaunts.

The 1.5-liter GM LSD engine is the same powerplant you’d have found in the previous-generation Equinox, so the drivetrain isn’t quite as all-new as the rest of a gen-IV example. Will something come along in subsequent years to spice things up? Could a plug-in hybrid option pop up sometime in the future? It’s not totally outside the realm of possibility.

Fuel economy for the 2025 Equinox is about what you’d expect from a compact SUV. We’re talking 26 MPGs in the city and 28 on the highway in its CVT and FWD configuration, and slightly less with AWD and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. That’s a bit lacking compared to the Honda CR-V’s 28 mpg city and 34 highway.

Whether the drivetrain in this Equinox lasts much beyond the five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty is an entirely different question. There have been one or two minor recalls in the last five years related to the engine start/stop system and the fuel pump. Still, no excess grenaded engine and transmission reports, and no reports of other pre-existing conditions that stand out as total deal-breakers. It’s certainly something to consider when pondering buying a new Equinox with the same engine these days.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox Interior 8/10

In a model trim lineup that consists of just three in total, there’s not as much room to stand out when it comes to interior features. But on the flip side, there is something to be said for having a simplified trim selection.

Standard cloth seats do come heated, and legroom comes in at 40.9 inches in the front and 30.9 in the rear. Moving up to the RS, the star attraction is an upgrade to Evotex vegan leather seat coverings that feel plush and supple even compared to conventional seat leathers.

As for the range-topper ACTIV trim, supple microfiber suede accents adorn the standard Evotex seat coverings. There’s also a prominent ACTIV badge sewn into the headrests, just in case you forget what trim you’re driving. It’s not the most luxurious interior, but it is sufficient for the segment. Available blue and red stitching on the seats makes for a nice touch of quality. Plus, the seats are heated, as is the steering wheel.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox Technology 8.5/10

No one out there would call the 2025 Equinox’s suite of features downright bad. But this is not a luxury vehicle, and you feel that as soon as you step inside. But at the very least, the small trim range is easy to tell apart.

The base LT is a classic case in point. With its standard 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen with iOS and Android wireless connectivity across the range, you don’t feel left out as you do with some other base trims at this level. The Equinox also comes with Google Assistant built in so you can access Google maps and other services. Additionally, the base LT also sports a digitized 11-inch gauge cluster; falling in line with the larger trend of digital info clusters across the range from other brands.

Of course, a slew of driver assistance features is standard across the range. This includes forward collision alert, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. So, while you won’t find much exciting on an Equinox’s features list, you will at least not be deficient in features either.

LT$28,600

Simplicity at its finest. A basic, entry-level model with enough modern touches to feel contemporary but not so much so that it drives the cost up even more. The base LT sports a trim-specific front grille with the option of a two-tone roof and standard alloy wheels.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS - chevrolet.com

RS$33,000

Sporty-looking, perhaps. But there’s not much to back up all that bravado in the 2025 Equinox RS. Still, it does look nice with that black grille blacked-out front fascia and standard two-tone roof. Paired with trim-specific black alloy wheels, you will at least know it’s an RS driving past as you see one on the highway. Plus, the vegan leather seats look pretty nice to sit in.

ACTIV$33,000

Bar-none the most exciting ICE Equinox model for 2025. We’re talking all-terrain tires, use-resistant microfiber suede seat inserts, and an overall more adventurous demeanor. The interior sports a wrapped steering wheel.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox Overall Value 8/10

It’s hard to put a value score on a brand-new generation right out of the gate. However, the 2025 Equinox does at least differentiate itself considerably from the outgoing model. That’s in spite of the fact they literally share the same engine currently. The Equinox comes with a fairly standard 3 year/ 36,000-mile warranty and a 5 year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Last year, we thought that it was time for the Equinox to get a major refresh. It was lacking across the segment for power and features. The 2025 Equinox is a step in the right direction for the brand. But at the end of the day, we’re still not convinced it’s enough to compete with the equivalent Toyota, Honda, or Ford.
