The 2024 XT5 is Cadillac’s mid-sized offering. 8 years into the first generation, the Cadillac XT5 comes with a great powertrain, advanced driver aids and more. Read our full review here.

What’s New for the 2024 Cadillac XT5?

Slotted between the XT4 and XT6, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is the automaker’s midsize offering. Introduced in 2017, the XT5 is getting up there in auto industry years, even with a mid-cycle refresh from 4 years ago.

Changes over the 2023 model, that we review here, include 2 new colors for the paint palette and optional bronze, blue, or red accent packages that bring gloss black rims and badging in the respective color. Given the light level of updates and long lifecycle, the XT5 seems to be getting ready to follow the Escalade into the EV future, though only time will tell.

2024 Cadillac XT5 Powertrain 7.5/10

In base form, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 comes with a turbocharged 2.0 inline-4 that produces 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. But as we note in this rundown of the most reliable luxury crossovers, it’s the available V6 you’ll be wanting. Displacing 3.6 liters, this engine comes in at 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is standard on Sport models or is a $1,000 option at the Premium Luxury level.

Both motors pair with a 9-speed automatic to spin the front wheels. AWD can be added to the Luxury and Premium Luxury models for $2,000 and is included at the Sport level. These top-spec variants are also fitted with adaptive dampers and a sport-tuned suspension for a touch of added excitement behind the wheel.

Fuel economy ranges from 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for the 4-cylinder powertrain to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for the V6. In both cases, adding AWD drops these figures by 1-2 mpg. If you plan to do any towing with your Cadillac XT5, be sure to opt for the V6 powertrain and its 3,500-pound rating as the smaller motor can only handle 1,000 pounds.

2024 Cadillac XT5 Interior 7.75/10

The XT5 is strictly a two-row five-seat crossover, but the back seat folds flat – or in a 60/40 split – which opens up a respectable 63 cubic feet of cargo space. When upright, that figure comes in at 30 cubic feet and the rear seat can be reclined for more comfort.

Front seat occupants can get even more comfy with available climatized cushions and power adjustability. Upholstery options include “Inteluxe” leatherette on base models and available semi-aniline leather further up the trim ladder. Opting for beige or brown upholstery colors is ideal as it adds a two-tone style to an otherwise all-black affair.

2024 Cadillac XT5 Technology Features 7.5/10

Though the 2024 XT5 comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-speaker Bose audio system, the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen is small by current standards. It’s the same size that came in the original 2017 XT5 that we looked at here and there is no option for a larger version. However, audiophiles will appreciate the available 14-speaker stereo, while the available head-up display (HUD) and Night Vision camera are useful driver aids.

As for advanced driver aids, only forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping system, and automatic high beams are standard on the XT5. GM’s clever Safety Alert Seat is also included across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires at least a Premium Luxury model, and adaptive cruise control (ACC) can only be had with an optional package.

Premium Luxury – $51,590

This midpack model brings a panoramic moonroof, 20-inch rims, rain-sensing wipers, and a hands-free liftgate. Cabin upgrades consist of a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery with a choice of colors, a wireless phone charging pad, navigation, and a Bose 14-speaker stereo. For a whopping $8,325, the Platinum package is stuffed with content like real wood trim, a HUD, a digital gauge cluster, automated parking, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and more.

Sport – $58,190

Loaded with AWD and the V6, Sport models also come with a performance-tuned suspension, adaptive dampers, a heavy-duty cooling system, and a mesh front grille. The AWD system comes with an exclusive twin-clutch design and the red-painted brake calipers are hiding a 6-piston Brembo setup up front. For about $3,000, you can have gloss black wheels with wheel caps and badges in your choice of bronze, blue, or red.

2024 Cadillac XT5 Overall Value 7.25/10

A 2024 Cadillac XT5 in Premium Luxury duds is the best value due to the higher degree of creature comforts and access to option packages. But it pales in comparison to a Genesis GV70 2.5T that roughly matches the Caddy on price while smoking it in power output and standard equipment like a 14.5-inch infotainment screen and ACC.

And forget it on the warranty, which comes in at 4 years or 50,000 miles of basic coverage, 6 years or 70,000 miles for the powertrain, and a single free service for the XT5. Genesis delivers more of everything here including a 10-year powertrain warranty and 3 years of complimentary service.

Given the stiff competition, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 doesn’t offer much in the way of incentive to buy one. It’s 8 years old – which is an eternity in the auto industry – the infotainment hasn’t been updated much – ever – and it takes a nickel-and-dime approach to driver aids, technology, and creature comforts.

The existence of a smooth, naturally aspirated V6 is a nice, and unusual, powertrain these days and the price points are okay for what you’re getting. But overall, it’s not an impressive crossover. That being said, if you do want to buy one, be sure to consult the latest new car incentives first!
