What is New for the 2025 Honda Odyssey?

2025 is something of a late-cycle refresh for the fifth-generation Odyssey, both inside and out. The front grille has been revised to be more aggressive-looking, and a new rear bumper has been added at the back to match. Better still, two tempting new paint colors, Smoke Blue Pearl and Solar Silver Metallic. Also, the line-up has dropped the EX trim level from last year’s line-up.

Let’s see how the 2025 Odyssey stacks up to its perennial rival from Toyota. As we’ll find, the Odyssey can justifiably call itself just a little bit more clever.

Japanese automakers tend to operate a little differently in North America than they do back home. Knowing full well that skittish American consumers aren’t always willing to accept change, Honda’s been hesitant to bring the international Odyssey’s two-liter four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain over to North America. Never mind that the international-spec Odyssey isn’t even produced anymore, but it would’ve been really nice to see it stateside at least once.

Overseas, this drivetrain generated a combined power output of around 145 horsepower and was paired with an e-CVT. Here in North America, the engine choice is far more conventional. It’s a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 paired with a ten-speed transmission, the latest in a long line of Honda/Acura J-series engines that stretch back to 1996. In no uncertain terms, the J-Series V6 is Honda’s small-block Chevy motor—an engine that’s come to define the brand as one that sells peppy engines in mundane vehicles.

That lack of a hybrid drivetrain sure does sting on the fuel economy side of things. We’re talking 22 combined MPGs, with 19 in the city and 28 on the highway. Compared to the 36 MPG you get from a Sienna hybrid, that feels pretty lacking. Still, there’s a definite guilty pleasure about driving a VTEC-equipped V6. With a zero to 60-sprint of 6.4 seconds, the Odyssey has a bit more grunt than a Toyota Sienna or Kia Carnival, which hover around 7 seconds and up.

2025 Odyssey Interior 9/10

Given how similar the Sienna and Odyssey are in size, you’d be forgiven for thinking their dimensions are basically the same inside. Though they’re indeed similar in interior space, they’re by no means carbon copies. The Sienna boasts 39.9 inches of legroom behind the front seats, a figure that’s largely agreed to be pretty good. The Odyssey answers with 40.9 inches of legroom behind the front seats, the same amount of space as what the driver and front passenger have to work with.

In the third row, the 2025 Odyssey has 38.1 inches of legroom at hand compared to 38.7 inches in the Sienna, and the Odyssey seats eight regardless of the trim. With the third row of seats extended, the 2025 Odyssey makes quick work of daily shopping runs with 32.8 cubic feet of cargo space compared to 33.5 in the Sienna and 40.2 in the Kia Carnival. Given the high entry price of this van, it should come as no surprise that even the base EX-L trim comes with plush leather-trimmed seats that are heated in the front, plus ventilated in the range-topping Elite trim.

Compared to lower-trimmed Siennas with cloth seats, it feels like Honda made an effort to make equivalent Odyssey trims feel more premium. Still, either van makes clever use of space in a way that makes sense for the average American family. But with Magic Slide sliding second-row seats, there’s an argument to be made that the Odyssey is slightly more adaptable.

2025 Odyssey Tech and Features 9.5/10

Each 2025 Odyssey comes standard with a seven-inch configurable digital gauge cluster flanked by a re-sized nine-inch center infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Honda Sensing suite of active and passive driver assistance features is available at the base trim, apart from the front and rear parking sensors, which are available starting with the Touring trim. All trims come equipped with CabinTalk driver-to-rear-passenger communication system that lets mom and dad scold their child without having to turn their heads.

All trims Touring and up make use of the CabinWatch feature, which gives an unobstructed view of the second and third row of seating via the center screen. As is the Advanced Rear Entertainment System with two 12.8-inch screens for the second-row passengers to enjoy independently. With ample cupholders and USB-C charging ports arranged throughout all three rows of seating, the revised Odyssey is a real tech and features powerhouse.

Carsforsale.com Overall Value 8.75/10

Honda will rue the day they balked on sending the international-spec Odyssey van’s hybrid drivetrain to support its North American cousin. Especially compared to the hybrid drivetrain available on the arch-rival Sienna, the Odyssey looks a little old-fashioned in the engine department.

Still, there are tons to like about what Honda has done with what’s most likely the final refresh for this generation of the NA-spec Odyssey van. It’s an absolute must-look for any rapidly expanding family, just as much now as ever.

We’ll have to run a proper head-to-head on the Sienna versus the Odyssey at some point in 2025. But even in a vacuum, the 2025 Odyssey is Honda in peak form. It’s one last hurrah for the company’s long standing established design language before moving onto more sci-fi designs in the future. For the average American family, it’s just a nice, well-equipped minivan.
