The 2025 fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee enters its fifth model year in production with ample competition all around it. But as a bread-and-butter vehicle for Jeep in North America, this model year’s shaping up to be more special than some previous years. Very little has changed over the past year aside from a price drop from last year’s model.

The 3.6-liter V6 and eight-speed automatic gearbox combo has certainly stuck around for a long time, even if it’s a bit long in the tooth by 2025. In the grand scheme of things, 293 horsepower is what we’ll call perfectly fine for most people.
The Grand Cherokee delivers solid performance, with 0 to 60 mph times of around eight seconds for the two-row model and slightly longer for the three-row version. While its fuel economy is average for its class, it more than makes up for it with a robust 6,200-pound towing capacity, adding a layer of capability for those who need power and versatility on and offroad.
The 4xe’s impressive 56 MPGe is very appealing to those looking to dip their toe into electrification. All models feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a battery, delivering 4WD along with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With a combined fuel economy of 23 mpg—the best in its class—and an all-electric range of up to 26 miles, it stands out. Plus, its 6,000-pound towing capacity is nothing to scoff at.
There’s something to be said for how nice of a job Jeep pulled off with the inside of the current Grand Cherokee. Simple cloth seat coverings are available starting with the Laredo A through the Laredo X. After that, the Altitude trim introduces Capri leatherette seat coverings with suede inserts for a slightly more comfortable experience. Napa leather enters the fray at the Overland trim as an optional extra before becoming standard with the Summit trim.
The range-topping Summit Reserve trim brings the A-game by adding Palermo leather seat coverings for a super plush and premium feel. Oh, and the second row of seats can be heated if you choose. Interior space is solid, with 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats in the two-row variant, plus 70.8 cubic feet of room with the rear seats stowed away. Rear legroom is pretty great too with 38.2 inches to work with behind the driver’s seat and 30.3 inches in the third row if equipped with the optional “L” trim packages available on gas powered trim levels for an extra 2 grand.
Overall, there’s enough adaptability between seating capacity, seat upholstery, and general use of interior space to make this a real bright spot in the saga of the 2025 Grand Cherokee.
Jeep’s clever Uconnect 5 infotainment system is widely hailed as one of the benefits of owning a Mopar product these days. The option for a larger center screen as you make your way up the range adds real value to the upper echelons of the trim range. Even so, the 8.4-inch touch screen in the lower trims is more than sufficient for most folks. If not, a 10.1-inch screen is available, starting with the Altitude X trim.
A crisp, clear digital gauge cluster brings a layer of refinement that’s nice to see from the traditionally old-fashioned Grand Cherokee. Niceties like a power sunroof become available with the Laredo X trim and heated front seats with the Laredo trim. Save for the Laredo A trim, 115-volt three-prong sockets, wireless charging, and ample USB-C connectivity make for a cushy interior on the face of it. Will the ample features and optional premium leather hold up to scrutiny after the purchase? That remains to be seen.
The most peculiar Grand Cherokee trim surprisingly comes from its bargain-basement trim. No 4WD option, cloth seats, and with most of the clever tech omitted, this is a fleet vehicle special through and through.
The Laredo trim is the entry point for all but the most frugal buyers. For the extra money, you get heated seats, rain-sensitive wipers, and an optional power liftgate, among other niceties. It sets the standard for the range that’s gradually improved upon.
The Laredo X trim improves on the trim beneath it with a power sunroof standard alongside 18-inch painted aluminum wheels. It’s a solid upgrade in features over the standard Laredo trim.
The Altitude trim adds a gloss black finish to its 18-inch aluminum wheels while making the power liftgate, leather seats, and soft-touch black headliner as standard features.
Just the Altitude with a sunroof? Well, not quite. You do at least get the option of 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels. Still, it’s not a huge upgrade.
With additional paint colors, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen standard, and additional off-road functionality via the terrain response system, the Limited trim is a strong contender for the best value of the range.
The Overland turns up the off-road ante with a two-speed transfer case, air-ride suspension, and hill descent control standard. You’re also gifted with Napa leather as a thank-you of sorts for spending so much.
By this stage, we’re moving into some real luxury SUV territory, and the Summit trim reflects this. The full range of driver assistance features make their unrestricted debut at this trim. We’re talking about automatic parking, a surround-view camera, and cross-traffic warnings, among others. You also get an electronic limited-slip differential if you equip it with 4WD.
For 63 grand, 21-inch alloy wheels seem par for the course. As does genuine wood-grain trim pieces, ventilated seats front and rear, plus a 10.25-inch passenger infotainment display similar to what larger, more luxurious Jeeps in the range make use of. It’s all tied together with a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system with integrated sound mixing software.
The classic Grand Cherokee formula but with a turbo engine mated with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It comes standard with a Quadra-Trac II 4WD, 18-inch machine-end face wheels, and Capri leather seats.
Same plug-in hybrid drivetrain but with an added auto-dimming digital rear mirror, ventilated front seats, tasteful dual bright exhaust tips, and bold blue front tow hooks for an uber-exclusive look.
Quadra-Lift air suspension and all-terrain tires on 18-inch Granite Crystal alloy wheels make the Trailhawk 4xe one of the most capable Jeeps at its price point. Added OEM skid plates mean you’ll get back from the trail in one piece.
With Nappa leather, all the driver assistants unlocked, and a 19-speaker premium McIntosh audio unit, this is one luxurious off-roader. It can even use cruise control off-road; it’s pretty cool if you ask us.
A trim more oriented at the luxury side of things instead of off-roading, the Summit 4xe sports 20-inch silver alloy wheels, Berber floor mats, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, heated second-row seats, and genuine wood grain interior trim pieces.
The halo trim of the entire Grand Cherokee lineup comes at us with 21-inch high gloss alloy wheels, Palermo premium leather, a softer headliner, and that nifty 10.25-inch front passenger infotainment display. It’s the most refined, most expensive, and most luxurious Grand Cherokee that Jeep has ever manufactured.
Jeep does add in two complementary oil changes and tire rotations during the first 2 years of ownership. Otherwise, the Grand Cherokee is backed by a 3 year/ 36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5 year / 60,000-mile warranty. It’s a standard offering, but other manufactures like Genesis offer longer warranty periods and better complementary service packages.
With a decent price drop compared to the previous model year, there’s more reason than ever to consider the Grand Cherokee. There is a configuration for just about everyone looking for a solid everyday SUV.

Is it the most refined SUV in its class? The Grand Cherokee is definitely up there. Still the inherent swag of the Jeep life makes the Grand Cherokee a tantalizing offer. Even more so thanks to that innovative 4xe drivetrain. Still, you might need a cold one after perusing the gargantuan trim lineup.
