Three row SUVs with the name Grand are all the rage these days with options like the new Toyota Grand Highlander and the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer sharing the approach. But that’s about where the similarities end. With the Grand Wagoneer, Jeep has created a sub-brand with luxury intentions far beyond Toyota.
The Grand Wagoneer competes with the likes of Cadillac’s Escalade and has the six-figure price tag to prove it. The main update over the 2023 Grand Wagoneer is that the 500-horse twin-turbo “Hurricane” powertrain becomes standard across the 2024 Grand Wagoneer lineup. This large luxury SUV holds its own on the street while still being a competent off-road vehicle, Jeep even displayed a Jeep Overland concept during last year’s Easter Safari which sadly will never hit the dealer showrooms.
Loads of standard luxuries
Powerful engine
Glitzy cabin
Guzzles premium
Can tip the scale at 6,700 pounds (!)
So. Many. Screens.
Another enormous luxury SUV
For 2024, every Grand Wagoneer comes with a high-output version of the automaker’s 3.0L twin-turbo inline-6 powertrain. Dubbed “Hurricane,” it produces 500 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque in this application. An 8-speed automatic transmission routes power to all four wheels as part of the standard Quadra-drive II system. The most capable of the many Jeep 4WD setups, it includes a front-axle disconnect feature.
With standard air suspension, the 2024 Grand Wagoneer offers 10 inches of ground clearance and the ability to ford 2 feet of water. Though it shares a body-on-frame platform with the Ram 1500 pickup truck, the big Jeep rides on a fully independent suspension, including semi-adaptive dampers.
It’s a monster-sized SUV with a curb weight between 6,300 and 6,700 pounds depending on wheelbase, but it can tow an equally-sized load. All models come with a Class IV hitch, a 4/7-pin wiring harness, and a 9,810-pound towing capacity. Opt for the heavy-duty trailer package to enjoy a beefier radiator, a trailer brake controller, and a trailer hitch zoom feature.
Three rows of seating come standard on the 2024 Grand Wagoneer with space for up to seven. Opt for second-row captain’s chairs and the seat count drops to six, but it may be worth it to enjoy the heated and ventilated cushions. The front passenger seats are climatized as well, not to mention massage-capable and 20-way adjustable.
Other standard amenities include quad-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a power-folding third row, and a tri-pane panoramic roof. Series III models look absolutely stunning with available Agave Blue or Tupelo quilted leather seats, and all models offer genuine slabs of wood inlays throughout as well.
Legroom is generous with 43 inches for the 2nd row and 37 inches for the 3rd row. Standard wheelbase Grand Wagoneers have 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 94.2 with the 2nd and 3rd row folded. Opt for the long wheelbase “L” body, which adds $3,000 to any trim line, and max cargo volume balloons to 112.9 cubes.
The Grand Wagoneer is the rare vehicle that makes you wonder if there is such a thing as too many screens. For starters, a digital gauge cluster sits next to a 12-inch central touchscreen.
Underneath that is a 10-inch articulating HVAC control display with a matching unit on the back of the center console. There are another 30 inches of optional screens, but all models come with wireless smartphone mirroring, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system.
There are no safety scores for the Grand Wagoneer, but the similar Wagoneer earned a 4-star overall rating from the NHTSA. A robust suite of standard advanced driver aids includes forward collision mitigation, a lane keep assist system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and a self-parking system.
The entry-level Grand Wagoneer has 20-inch wheels, full LED exterior lighting, power-deploying running boards, heated side mirrors, and a hands-free liftgate.
Inside, standard fare includes ambient lighting, climatized and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and real wood trim. The tech roster is deep with highlights including USB ports for all rows, a head-up display, a wireless phone charging pad, and a surround-view monitor.
Obsidian models sport the black-out treatment including on the 22-inch wheels. Cabin upgrades consist of a 10-inch touchscreen for the front-row passenger, upgraded leather, a digital rearview mirror, and a 23-speaker audio system. Like all Grand Wagoneers, a rear entertainment system with dual 10-inch screens can be added for $2,595.
In Series III spec, the Grand Wagoneer is dressed up with loads of exterior brightwork and the option for snazzy Agave Blue or Tupelo leather upholstery. These models also feature a night vision camera, Active Driving Assistance, and a rear-seat monitoring camera.
Adding the Obsidian style to the Series III model, this range-topping Grand Wagoneer has it all – intersection turn assistance, navigation, traffic sign recognition, a center console cooler, three years of app-based vehicle connectivity, and more.
Considering the huge price tags of every 2024 Grand Wagoneer, the base model seems like the best value. It’s absolutely packed with content and compares favorably against the similarly priced Cadillac Escalade in Premium Luxury trim. The big Jeep has far more power, can tow an extra 2,000 pounds, and has a similar array of tech and amenities.
Jeep’s warranty is pretty typical for the Grand Wagoneer with 3 years or 36,000 miles of basic coverage and 5 years or 60,000 miles of powertrain coverage. But the 3 years of complimentary maintenance is above average. Cadillac, for example, only includes the first service on the house.

In the context of four-wheeled luxury-lined barges, the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer stands tall. It has tons of power, glitz to spare, a tremendous list of standard features, and so many screens it’s hard to keep track of them all.
But oh my goodness, where is the line on these behemoths? In L guise, the Grand Wagoneer weighs a massive 6,700 pounds and 14 mpg is an atrocious figure, particularly considering you’ll be paying for premium.
