What is New for the 2025 Nissan Murano?

For 2025, the Nissan Murano is all-new, kicking off fourth-gen production. Closely resembling the Ariya EV, this more upscale-oriented Murano drops the old V6 and CVT for a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 making less power – 240 hp – but more torque – 260 lb-ft – than before. Features like ultra-thin “Crystal Cube” LED headlights bring elegance to the entire lineup, while new amenities like massaging front seats on the top-spec Platinum model aim to move the Murano more upmarket than its predecessors.

Nissan made a big change with the new Murano, dropping the long-running naturally aspirated V6 for its 2.0L variable-compression (VC) turbocharged four-cylinder. It makes 241 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is about 20 fewer horses and exactly 20 more lb-ft of twist than the outgoing V6. It pairs with a 9-speed automatic to spin the front wheels, though AWD is standard on the SL model and above or optional on base SV variants.

Automakers often cite the efficiency benefits of going with a relatively small displacement boosted engine and Nissan in particular points to its VC engine – an impressive piece of engineering- as helping on this front. However, the 2025 Murano earns 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined in front- or all-wheel drive guise. Compared to the old FWD V6’s ratings of 20, 28, and 23 mpg respectively, there’s not much to get excited about here.

2025 Nissan Murano Interior 8.25/10

Adding an extra 2.6 inches of width for 2025, the new Murano promises a bit more room to spread out side-to-side, but it actually loses a meaningful 2.4” of rear legroom, is virtually unchanged in the shoulder room department, and max cargo capacity drops by 4 cubic feet to 63 cubes. In good news, the cabin is more luxurious than ever with standard noise-cancelling tech and active sound control helping keep the interior calm and quiet.

Nissan’s lauded Zero Gravity are now fitted for the second row along with the front buckets, the latter of which are climatized and massaging on the range-topping Platinum. A new “Murano Glass” textured dashboard finisher features color-shifting graphics to up the visual excitement and semi-aniline leather – reserved for the Platinum model – looks ritzy with two-tone designs and diamond quilting with contrast stitching.

2025 Nissan Murano Technology Features 8/10

Every 2025 Nissan Murano comes with a 12.3-inch configurable instrument panel and a matching central touchscreen. Wireless smartphone mirroring is standard, though Google built-in and a Wi-Fi hotspot require at least the SL trim line. These Muranos also feature a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 10-speaker audio system from Bose, and Nissan’s suite of connectivity services.

On the safety front, the 2025 Murano has been enhanced with a new passenger-side knee airbag, under-seat reinforcement, and seat belt load limiters with pretensions for the second row. Standard driver aids include forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, and ProPILOT Assist. Neither the IIHS nor NHTSA has yet tested the 2025 Murano, but the 2024 model earned a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA.

2025 Nissan Murano Overall Value 7.75/10

The 2025 Murano SV seems the best model to look at for two reasons. First, for about $40,000, it comes well equipped with desirable features like heated seats, a big set of rims, and the giant-sized dashboard display. Second, at more than $46,000, the next-up Murano SL is going up against the likes of a GMC Acadia Elevation, given the Murano’s new-found luxury pretenses.

You can read up on the Acadia here, but know that it makes quite a bit more power, comes with a third row, has an extra 5” of second-row legroom, and is impressively equipped in this base spec. Both automakers provide 3 years of basic warranty coverage and 5 years for the powertrain, but only Nissan includes 2 years of complimentary maintenance.

Nissan did a nice job with the new design and overhauled cabin of the 2025 Murano. It’s an elegant vibe that aligns closely with the Ariya and there is plenty of impressive tech. Massaging seats are nice touch too. But several notable aspects are something of a head-scratcher like the tighter cabin, reduced cargo space, and fuel economy ratings that don’t move over the old the V6.

Some of this may make the new Murano a tough sell compared to other upmarket aspirants like the Mazda CX-90 that has a similar price point while offering better fuel economy and a bigger cabin. So, be sure to check out the latest new car incentives before hitting the dealer lots!
