Problem numero uno with the Rouge is the transmission, while it helps with overall fuel economy, performance is a clear issue. The 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine employed in all 2025 Rogues in the US is an interesting motor in an equally interesting application. The Rogue is not the first crossover SUV of this size to employ a tiny three-pot engine. Ford’s been doing it with the Bronco Sport and Escape with their EcoBoost engines for years now, and Chevy follows suit with the Trax SUV.

But in the Rogue, its puny engine jets an impressive 201 horsepower. That’s 20 more than the equivalent Ford, the Escape. It’s a full 64 horses more than a Chevy Trax. In its front-wheel-drive configuration, you’ll hover around the 32 to 33 MPG combined range, depending on the specific trim. With the extra drive axles at the back, this fuel economy decreases to 31 MPG combined for the SL and Platinum and 29 for the rugged Rock Creek Edition. Not bad at all for a vehicle of this size, and that extra turbocharged grunt could pay dividends merging onto crowded highways and suburban parkways.

2025 Rogue Interior 8.5/10

Nissan interiors over the last decade or so haven’t been anything to write home about. But to its credit, the 2025 Rogue appears to buck this trend with some real, palpable updates to the interior. Plush, zero-gravity front seats trimmed either in cloth, leatherette, or leather, depending on the trim, make for a refined and pleasant place to spend a road trip or school run. Between all the different seat cover materials and colors, you have an astonishing ten sets of colors and materials to choose from in just this model year. As for the Rock Creek trim, it gets its own off-road-inspired interior trim pieces.

All the while, you’ll find Nissan gave the Rogue dedicated HVAC controls. Odd as it sounds, physical buttons for the HVAC are no longer guaranteed. Center to the driver is a large, chunky steering wheel in stark contrast to the rather petite wheel of the previous generation Rogue. From this, your radio, cruise control, and adaptive driver assistance software suite are easily in the hands of the driver. All the functions not paired to the HVAC controls or steering wheel reside in a 12.3-inch touchscreen center display in the SL and Platinum with an eight-inch display in everything beneath.

Of course, Android and iOS connectivity are stalwarts of this screen’s features. All the services of the NissanConnect entertainment, navigation, and security package are included, regardless of the trim. But apart from being a decent place to spend a road trip, the 2025 Rogue’s 36.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats in place is sure to come in handy. When the seats fold down, that space increases to a healthy 74.1 cubic feet of room. Children in the back seat won’t be strapped for space either, with 39.2 inches of headroom and 38.5 inches of legroom in the back.

Is it any better than the equivalent Honda or Toyota? This is debatable. But at this price point, you can’t help but think that Nissan crammed more refinements into the 2025 Rogue than they needed to.

2025 Rogue Tech and Features 8.75/10

Even though this is the last year for this fourth-generation Grand Cherokee, the dash looks as up to date as any new model would. The infotainment screen is a similar behemoth found in the Ram pickup, but it’s still HD and the user-interface works really well. Nothing is confusing, and you can easily play with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Although not in every Jeep, the available Harmon Kardon sound system will sound nice and adds to the luxury interior’s ambiance. Wi-Fi and Amazon Alexa skills are available on Jeep models if you wish to use them. Jeep’s connected car system also allows you to perform functions like car location, remote vehicle start, and more through their app.

All models above base also net the NissanConnect platform with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, while SL and above net the wireless variant of Android Auto and iOS Car Play. All but the base S Rogue make use of no less than four USB ports inside its cabin, while the S itself only has two. There’s also the ubiquitous blind spot warning, forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, and rear collision mitigation software that pretty much all new cars employ nowadays.

But for a fee, The Rogue’s ProPILOT assist 2.0 somes with its hands-on, semi-autonomous driving capability, a true match to similar systems like Ford‘s BlueCruise. Features like Speed Adjust can help the driver maintain the posted speed limit, and lane-keep assist to help keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. Optional adaptive cruise control in the Rogue SV and up gives a nice touch of refinement to a middle-of-the-road mid-size crossover.

Meanwhile, the premium package for the Rock Creek off-roader nets you integrated turn signals in the door mirrors, a feature shared with the SL and Platinum. Along with all-terrain tires, selectable off-road drive modes, and beefy exterior trim pieces, you’ll know a Rock Creek when you see one. In truth, this mid-cycle refresh has done more good for the vehicle’s exterior appeal than anything we’ve seen in a long time. Gone is that ungainly horseshoe grille arrangement. In its place is an all-new front fascia with special contrasting black trim pieces on the Rock Creek Edition.

Is there much here you won’t find on every other crossover in the segment? Not exactly. But you have to admire the execution and the seemingly good faith effort to make the facelifted gen-III Rogue separate itself from its mediocre past.

Rogue S: $29,230

Under $30 Gs to start for a mid-size crossover is nothing to sneeze at. Without the larger nav screen and with a smaller set of 17-inch wheels, you don’t lose all that much by opting for the entry-level 2025 Rogue, to its credit.

2025 Nissan Rogue SV - carsforsale.com

Rogue SV: $30,970

Not for nothing, but you do get a fair few upgrades over the base Rogue for not much more money. You double the amount of USB connectivity for starters. Better still, adaptive cruise control makes its debut with the SV trim. Optional heated seats make for a tempting offer in wintery climates, just as much as the optional moonroof would in sunny weather. The optional Prima-Tex leatherette interior should at least be more durable than the real stuff.

2025 Nissan Rogue SL - carsforsale.com

Rogue SL: $36,090

It’s at the SL trim that the real luxuries come out to play, we’re talking 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, Amazon Alexa available on command, and an optional SL premium package that adds remote activated puddle lights and ambient ground lighting via LEDs in the open doors.

Rogue Rock Creek AWD: $35,420

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s proof that Nissan still cares about building cool cars. By slapping Falken all-terrain tires over dark-painted 17-inch rims and water-repellant seat coverings, you know exactly the kind of folks Nissan was gunning for here. With an optional premium package with a heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad, four-way power passenger seat, and interior LED accents, among other items, you might find Explorer Tremor and Tahoe Z71 drivers opt for this instead. That’s especially true if they’re conscious about gas prices these days. It’s a total ten out of ten idea from Nissan, undoubtedly the highlight of the 2025 Rogue lineup.

2025 Nissan Rogue Platinum - carsforsale.com
2025 Nissan Rogue Platinum - carsforsale.com

Rogue Platinum: $39,520

$40 grand is a ton of money to pay for a Nissan product without an Infiniti badge. For your money, you get everything from the previous trims sans Rock Creek, plus a ten-speaker Bose sound system. A decent range-topper for sure, but not exactly a game-changer either.

2025 Rogue Overall Value 8/10

Is the third-generation facelifted Rogue a better vehicle than its predecessors? Well, with the new styling and an exciting off-road edition, it is at least a more interesting vehicle. With a clever three-cylinder engine, decent fuel economy, solid practicality, and acceptable features, you wouldn’t be a fool to lease a Rogue right now. The warranty is somewhat standard with 36,000-mile warranty/5 years and 60,000 miles for the powertrain, and no complementary maintenance. We would like to see something a bit closer to the Hyundai Tuscon’s offer with a longer warranty offer and 3 years of complementary maintenance.

To drive the point home about the 2025 Rogue, Nissan needed this refresh to do nothing short of revitalizing for the moniker. If it wasn’t, Honda, Toyota, Chevy, and Ford would eat Nissan’s lunch for the rest of the model cycle. With that in mind, the Rogue might be Nissan‘s most important vehicle at the moment. That’s why it’s important that it appears to be so competent.
